She-Hulk: Attorney at Law director and executive producer Kat Coiro discusses She-Hulk/Jennifer Walters' dynamic with Bruce Banner. The upcoming MCU television series stars Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany as the titular character who is hired as a defense attorney for enhanced humans, such as Emil Blonsky/Abomination (Tim Roth). After inadvertently having Banner's blood contaminated with hers, Walters transforms into the 6'7" powerful She-Hulk.

Like her cousin Banner, Walters can willingly change into a hulking green version of herself, imbued with incredible super-strength. But unlike Banner's original incarnation of the Hulk, she retains her personality when transformed. Recently released trailers and clips from She-Hulk revealed that Banner will feature in a mentor role, guiding Walters as she copes with the drastic changes her body undergoes as a result of the blood contamination. However, Walters appears more than up to the task as she fully embraces her powers and newfound fame.

In a recent interview with EW, Coiro teased Walters and Banner's dynamic in She-Hulk. When asked about how Walters will play off of Banner as she learns to harness her burgeoning abilities, the director had only positive things to say. Read what Coiro said about the pair's relationship below.

Bruce and Jennifer's dynamic is honestly one of my favorite parts of the series because he comes into it having gone through this very personal journey, and he has a predisposed idea that her experience is going to be exactly the same as his and that he has a lot to teach her. And very quickly, it becomes clear that her experience is going to be very different, both physically, literally, and mentally because of how they have operated differently in the world as men and women. I love watching Bruce get completely thrown off his game of thinking that he's the teacher and realizing that very quickly, she has things to teach him.

And it was fun watching Mark [Ruffalo] and Tatiana, because he's been playing his Hulk for so many years and she was very new to the Hulk, and yet, as soon as they started working together, Mark was like, 'Wow, she's amazing and she's bringing all these new levels to the Hulk.' The actors' experience really mirrored the characters' experience in a really fun way.

It makes sense that Walters' perspective as a woman will challenge Banner's experience as the Hulk. Although the two are family, look similar in regard to their transformations, and share the same powers, their life experiences will naturally dictate how they address their anger management. With Walters almost immediately controlling her transformation and her anger in a way Banner didn't until Avengers: Endgame, She-Hulk's journey is already vastly different than the Hulk's.

Coiro's comments also suggest that Banner and Walters' relationship will go beyond that of a traditional mentor-mentee, with Banner relying on his cousin as much as she does on him. This is backed up by a previous video showing Walters pulling a bloodied Banner from a destroyed sedan, possibly saving his life. It is this incident that causes Walters to become infected with Banner's blood. How Banner could be near death remains to be seen, but the fact that she pulled him from the wreckage may weigh heavily on him and motivate him to assist Walters in any way that he can. With She-Hulk set to debut on Disney+ on August 18, audiences will have to wait a little while longer to see Hulk and the She-Hulk share the screen in live-action for the first time.
