Liv Tyler's Betty Ross is rumored to be returning for Marvel Studios' She-Hulk series on Disney+. The upcoming streaming service presents Marvel Studios with a brand new avenue for storytelling in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. They're focusing on giving supporting characters in the films like Scarlet Witch and Falcon starring treatments and introducing new ones like Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk.
However, they are also set to bring back some even smaller and lesser-used characters too. Emily VanCamp's Sharon Carter will return for The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, while WandaVision is confirmed to include the returns of Randall Park's Jimmy Woo and Kat Denning's Darcy Lewis. The latter hasn't been seen since 2013's Thor: The Dark World, but now another upcoming series may bring back one of the MCU's original and forgotten characters.
The rumor of Liv Tyler's possible MCU return comes courtesy of Daniel Richtman's patreon (via CBR). The series will reportedly see William Hurt return as Thunderbolt Ross - after his appearance in Black Widow - and Richtman says his daughter may also return. Tyler has only made one appearance as Betty in the MCU in The Incredible Hulk. This is just a rumor though and has not been confirmed by Marvel or Disney.
If Tyler does return as Betty Ross in She-Hulk, it will mark her first appearance in the MCU in at least 13 years - and that's if She-Hulk managed to have a 2021 release somehow. Realistically, Betty's possible return would not happen until 2022. As a result, there's no telling how much Betty has changed since 2008. She was still in love with Bruce Banner (played by Edward Norton at the time and not Mark Ruffalo), but that relationship has not been mentioned again since. Instead, Bruce found a love interest through Black Widow.
In any case, the potential for Betty to return in She-Hulk is an intriguing possibility to know of this early on. While Jennifer Walters could seek Betty out, potentially the reverse could happen if Betty is curious about how Jennifer gets her powers. While we don't yet know what Betty has been up to for the last decade, the possibility of her continued research with gamma radiation could explain how she could factor into She-Hulk. This could even open the door for Tyler and Ruffalo to share the screen for the first time if he also returns as Smart Hulk. While a Hulk movie is not around the corner, it is possible that Tyler's return in She-Hulk could be part of Marvel's long-term plans for her and the Hulk corner of the MCU.
