Update: A new set photo now shows Zachary Levi's Shazam costume from the front.
A set photo from DC Films' Shazam! reveals our first look at Zachary Levi in costume as the titular superhero. Warner Bros. has been building its DC Films shared universe in earnest since they debuted Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. However, that film wasn't well received by critics or fans and was followed by the even less well received Suicide Squad. Though it seemed the shared superhero universe was righting its ship with the critically and financially successful Wonder Woman, Justice League was another miss for the franchise.
That said, DC Films has a number of exciting projects on their upcoming slate, including James Wan's Aquaman set to debut later this year and the currently filming Shazam! solo movie being directed by David F. Sandberg. Shazam! will star Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Zachary Levi as his adult superhero counterpart, Shazam. Though an official look at Levi in costume as the titular superhero has yet to be released, we've now got our first glimpse of the costume thanks to a set photo from the production.

Reddit user vivaelsam posted a photo of Levi in costume as Shazam, sporting the character's iconic red suit - equipped with gold boots, belt, and wrist gauntlets - as well as the cream-colored cape. Levi also has the Shazam hairstyle he teased on social media last week. Take a look at the photo below:
Last week, Sandberg said the official Shazam suit reveal was "right around the corner," and he explained it would have arrived sooner if Levi's costume had leaked online thanks to set photos. Now that Levi's suit has been revealed to fans through this set photo, it seems likely Warner Bros. and DC Films will release an official first look photo of the actor in costume. The official first image should give us a better idea of what the front of Shazam's suit will look like, though considering how close to the comics it already appears to be, the front may be exactly like the character's comic book counterpart. Still, this set photo is from a distance away, so at the very least an official photo will allow fans to see more of the details in the Shazam costume.
In terms of what we can glean from this Shazam! set photo, it's clear the film's costume designers and hair/makeup artists have effectively brought to life the concept of a superhero created by the imagination of a young boy. Levi's gelled hair and the bright colors of his suit are as if a comic book was brought to life, which is essentially what happens when Billy Batson says the word, "Shazam" and becomes the eponymous superhero. Since Shazam is the result of Billy's imagination come to life, though, that begs the question of what happens if Billy's ideas about superheroes change - like, for instance, if he were to meet Superman in Shazam!
Further, given the setting of the photo, it seems Shazam! will be set around Christmas and will feature a scene in a mall decked out in all the decorations of the holiday season. Other than that, there's not much we can discern from this set photo. With that said, the arrival of one set photo indicates there will likely be more to come, which may offer us a look at Mark Strong as Dr. Sivana or others from the film. Until then, we can anticipate an official photo of Shazam! star Levi in costume to arrive sooner rather than later.
