Shazam! Director Still Trolling Fans, But Confirms New Trailer Arrives Monday

Director David F. Sandberg confirms a new Shazam! trailer arrives on Monday. Warner Bros. and DC Films' Worlds of DC franchise got off to a bit of a rocky start between Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, Suicide Squad and Justice League. However, the film series has had tremendous success with their solo offerings. Zack Snyder's Man of Steel was the best received film in the franchise until Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman hit theaters in 2016. More recently, James Wan's Aquaman earned over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, becoming the highest-grossing entry in the Worlds of DC franchise. Now, DC is looking for another hit in Sandberg's Shazam! movie.

Shazam! stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson, a young boy who receives superpowers and can transform into the adult version of the superhero (played by Zachary Levi) simply by shouting "Shazam!" The first trailer for Shazam! debuted during Warner Bros' panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego last summer, offering a look at the family-friendly, lighthearted superhero movie. With comparisons to Tom Hanks' Big, Shazam! is poised to be a different kind of superhero story in the Worlds of DC franchise. And while fans have been clamoring for another Shazam! trailer for some time, the director has repeatedly told them they'll have to wait a bit. Now, that wait is nearly over.

On Twitter, Sandberg revealed the new Shazam! trailer will premiere on Monday, March 4, just in time for it to be attached to Marvel Studios' Captain Marvel, which hits theaters next Friday. Sandberg made the annoucement with a tongue-in-cheek loading video meant to tease the Shazam! trailer without giving away any new footage. Check out the video and Sandberg's annoucement in the tweet below.

Ever since Sandberg joined the project, the Shazam! director has had fun with fans, which ultimately plays into the playful tone of the movie itself. And now, after rumors of the new Shazam! trailer arriving in January, as well as the release of behind-the scenes videos and short TV spots, Sandberg has used his particular sense of humor to announce the full Shazam! trailer in an incredibly fun way.

What the new Shazam! trailer will reveal about the movie, however, is another matter entirely. Fans would no doubt like to see a first look at the Shazam Family, which has been heavily teased by the tie-in merchandise for the movie. Further, the DC Comics' Seven Deadly Sins were recently confirmed and they could make for some compelling trailer footage. Ultimately, though, it remains to be seen what will be included in the Shazam! trailer. Of course, with confirmation of new teaser arriving on Monday, at least fans don't have much longer to wait until they get to see even more footage from Shazam! ahead of the film's April release date.
