Shazam's reshoots will apparently run a little longer than initially expected, wrapping in late December. Coming off the critical and commercial failure of Justice League, Warner Bros. is hoping to get their DC Comics franchise back on track with the forthcoming installments. James Wan's Aquaman is currently generating positive buzz ahead of its release this December, and David F. Sandberg's Shazam is shaping up to be a much-needed light-hearted romp that adds a super powered twist to the Big formula.

Starring Zachary Levi as the titular character, Shazam started to win people over after the first trailer debuted at San Diego Comic-Con 2018. Viewers seemed to respond positively to the film's tone and many are excited to see if it can become a surprise hit. Shazam is set for release in April, but before final picture is locked, there's some additional photography needed. Levi recently confirmed those pickups are now underway, and he'll be in the suit into the next month.

According to HN Entertainment, the Shazam reshoots will run until December 22. They were previously set to conclude on November 18, so about four weeks have been added to the schedule.

Zachary Levi as Shazam

Thanks to recent troubled productions like Justice League, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and others, the term "reshoots" has a pretty negative connotation in some circles. However, it's important to keep in mind that just about every big-budget tentpole sets aside time for pickups, and it's a standard part of the industry now. By all accounts, these Shazam reshoots are part of the plan and nothing more severe. Principal photography went quite smoothly and there have been no reports suggesting any behind-the-scenes turmoil. WB seems pleased with the way Shazam is turning out and decided to give Sandberg extra time for any reshoots he felt were necessary. Ideally, that will allow the team to make the best film possible.

Sandberg has some work to do before Shazam is complete, but it's only a matter of time before WB revs up the next wave of marketing. In all likelihood, the studio will want a new trailer to be ready for Aquaman in December so they can use the premiere of one film to promote another. Given that the next Shazam preview allegedly features an improved suit design with refined visual effects, fans are certainly eager to see it all in action. Ideally, the upcoming Shazam trailer won't disappoint and keep the hype train rolling.
