A new Shazam! fan-made trailer features Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam. Directed by Annabelle: Creation helmer David F. Sandberg, the DCEU film stars Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Zachary Levi as his titular superhero alter ego. Plot details for the film are still scarce at the moment but the flick is expected to explore the duality of the DC character - taking a more lighthearted tone than past DC films (but without the quippy one-liners).

Originally set to debut in Shazam!, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam was eventually scrapped from the upcoming DC origin story, as confirmed by Geoff Johns last July. Since then, several rumors have popped up regarding his fate in the franchise in the months that followed. For a time, word was that he'd be debuting in his own solo film. That, too, changed and the latest update about Black Adam is that he'll be introduced in Suicide Squad 2.

The video above comes from YouTube user Stryder HD, a content creator that specializes in fan trailers. He's done all sorts of reimaginings, but his latest creation imagines what Shazam! would look like if it also featured The Rock's Black Adam. Using several clips of Johnson from his previous action films and mixing them with Man of Steel (and some Batman V Superman) scenes, the creator takes his project to an impressive level by actually overlaying the DC villain (complete with his suit) on top of Henry Cavill's Superman, making it look like Johnson was the one doing the Kryptonian stunts. A tease of Levi in full Shazam costume can be seen as the video comes to a close, similar to how film studios often attach stingers to their trailers.

While fans will have to wait a little while longer than initially expected to to see Black Adam make his debut in the DCEU, Johnson remains attached to Shazam! in a different way, serving as an executive producer. In hindsight, introducing Billy Batson and his superhero alter ego in the origin story and saving his trademark foe for later DC films is perhaps the better route to go. It allows Sandberg to focus on building the core characters of the story first, without having to also think of developing Black Adam, who one presumes is going to be a key player in the franchise moving forward.

Unfortunately, fans have kind of been left twisting in the wind as of late when it comes to Shazam! updates. After a look at Levi's suit leaked online, it seemed likely that it would only be a short matter of time before an official look at the actor wearing his costume was released. But now, nearly two weeks and several more leaked set photos later, an official Shazam! reveal has yet to be presented. Here's hoping Warner Bros. decides to finally change that soon, and give DC's latest film hero his proper grand unveiling.
