Shazam! Behind-The-Scenes Trailer Reveals More Action & Jokes

Get a fresh look at Warner Bros.' next DC movie, Shazam!, in a behind-the-scenes trailer that reveals a little more footage of action scenes and humorous moments. Stars Asher Angel (who plays the teen Billy Batson) and Zachary Levi (who plays Billy after he's transformed into an adult superhero) are also on hand to explain why being a superhero is awesome, with a little help from Jack Dylan Grazer (who plays Billy's foster brother, Freddy).

Directed by David F. Sandberg, Shazam! is primarily based on the New 52 relaunch of the character, and a lot of the scenes in the trailers will be familiar to fans who have read that run of comics. Shazam was originally called Captain Marvel, but eventually lost that moniker due to a clash with Marvel Comics. However, there is a Captain Marvel movie arriving in theaters in just a few weeks, if you're a fan of that superhero name.

Though he might look big and strong in his superhero form, Shazam is actually a fifteen year-old foster kid called Billy Batson, who is summoned by a dying wizard and chosen to be the recipient of great powers. By saying the word "Shazam!" he is able to transform into a super-strong, bulletproof superhero with the power to fly around and zap magic lightning from his fingertips... which he initially uses to steal money from an ATM so he can go and buy beer. Hey, being a superhero has a learning curve. Check out the latest look at Shazam! below.

Among the new clips included in this trailer are Billy and Freddy chugging some beer (and then immediately spitting it out), a shot of Shazam dramatically leaping out of a carnival stand during one of the movie's big battle scenes, and Billy discovering his lightning powers via a volatile interaction with a utility pole. There's also some previously shown footage of Shazam battling the movie's villain, Sivana, who is played by Mark Strong.

This trailer also seems to throw a little bit of shade at earlier entries in the DC Extended Universe like Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, with Levi contrasting Shazam!'s joyful outlook on being a superhero to movies that are full of angst and brooding. Warner Bros. has been making a concerted effort to reinvent the DCEU as something more fun and approachable for audiences - with great success. The most recent release, Aquaman, had a much more upbeat adventure feel to it, and ended up becoming the first DCEU movie to pass the billion dollar mark at the box office.

There are interesting times ahead for DC on the big screen, with movies like Joker and Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation Of One Harley Quinn) on the way. Fortunately, with Shazam!'s release now less than two months away, we won't have to wait much longer for the next adventure.
