DC FanDome reveals the official title for the Shazam sequel: Shazam: Fury of the Gods. Zachary Levi and director David F. Sandberg are reuniting after initially working on the first movie, which hit theaters last year. The film functioned as the origin movie for the dual-personality hero with Asher Angel playing the character's human alter-ego, Billy Batson. Critics and fans alike enjoyed the blockbuster, which earned $366 million at the global box office against a production budget of $80-100 million. With this, it made sense that Warner Bros. wanted to continue Shazam and Billy's adventure in a sequel.

Plot specifics for Shazam 2 are still under wraps at this point, but it's safe to say that Billy's siblings and their respective hero counterparts will play a bigger role in the follow-up. At the end of the first Shazam movie, each of the young cast members was granted their own special powers, effectively creating a band of superheroes. Fans, however, have to wait a little while longer to learn more about the upcoming sequel. Initially slated to release on April 2022, Shazam 2 was delayed seven months to November 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic. That said, Sandberg and his team were still able to come up with something special for the public in time for DC FanDome.

Some of the cast members made an appearance in the sequel's special panel at the virtual convention exclusively centered on DC properties. While they didn't reveal any narrative detail or concept art for the movie, Sandberg announces that the follow-up adventure of the dual-personality character and his family of superheroes will be titled Shazam: Fury of the Gods.

Sandberg is tight-lipped about narrative details about Shazam: Fury of the Gods thus far. The director doesn't even want to confirm the identities of the gods referenced in the sequel's title. That said, considering that Shazam's superhuman abilities are inspired by the gods, chances are that they're tied into the narrative one way or another. As implied by the first "official" poster for the film, Batson's siblings will also be front and center. Perhaps the movie's subtitle has something to do with Shazam's decision at the end of the film to use the powerful staff and share his powers with his siblings, effectively creating the Shazam family.

Considering the fact that Shazam: Fury of the Gods has yet to even begin principal photography yet, it's understandable why Sandberg doesn't want to reveal anything big in terms of the movie's narrative. Some things can still change or maybe other aspects of the stories are yet to be confirmed. That said, fans can look forward to more information about the follow-up as filming begins and its release date nears.
