Shazam! Fury of the Gods director, David F. Sandberg, has taken to social media to celebrate the film’s final day of shooting. The 2023 film is the highly anticipated follow-up to Sandberg’s 2019 installment in the DCEU. It will once again see Asher Angel and Zachary Levi tag team the roles of Billy Batson and Shazam, respectively.

Very little is known about the plot of Shazam! Fury of the Gods at this time. However, it has been established that it will continue many threads planted in Shazam! The sequel will follow the titular hero and his now superpowered foster family as they protect the world from magical threats. In Shazam! Fury of the Gods, they will find themselves up against Helen Mirren as Hespera and Lucy Liu as Kalypso. West Side Story star, Rachel Zegler, is also joining the Shazam! world in a currently undisclosed role.

After several behind-the-scenes glimpses at the production of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, production has finally come to an end. To commemorate the occasion, director David F. Sandberg took to Instagram to post a picture (one of many Shazam! set photos in recent days) celebrating the chaos he created on set and the fact that he gets to sleep now that he has finished shooting the film. Check out the wrap picture below:

Though the plot of Shazam! Fury of the Gods remains firmly under wraps at this time, the above image does give fans some clues about the type of movie fans can expect to see. First and foremost, the strength of the film’s superpowered beings will likely remain on full display, as the wrap photo shows Sandberg posing in a destroyed bedroom set – which shares some visual similarities to Billy Batson's foster home. Whether or not the destruction was caused by one of the film’s villains or by one of its young heroes testing out their power remains to be seen.

With the completion of principal photography, Shazam! Fury of the Gods has crossed a major milestone for production during the time of Covid-19. The highly anticipated sequel underwent a major shutdown in October 2020 due to the pandemic, but finishing the main portion of the shoot means Sandberg and his crew can focus their efforts on post-production. There’s always the possibility of some reshoots needing to happen, but with shooting currently wrapped, Shazam! Fury of the Gods should be on target to meet its June 2, 2023 release date.
