Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Adam Brody reveals he wants to see the Shazamily face off against Lobo or The Joker in the future. The sequel picks up a few years after the events of Shazam! and sees the young heroes continuing to fight crime after defeating Dr. Sivana with varying degrees of success. When a dangerous new enemy, the Daughters of Atlas, appear with their sights set on Billy and his family, the Shazamily must work together to defeat them and save the world.

Brody plays the adult superhero version of Freddie Freeman. In an exclusive Screen Rant interview for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, the Freddy actor shares which DC villains he thinks the Shazamily should fight. Brody chose two very dark villains, Lobo and The Joker, to challenge the optimistic Shazamily. Check out Brody's DCU pitch below:

DC phase 17. I feel like we're gonna be up against maybe Lobo, or somebody dark and crazy that juxtaposes very nicely with the youthful naïveté and innocence of Shazam. Who's the most corrupt son of a bitch in the DC universe? Maybe us and Shazam and Todd Phillips' Joker 3.

Which DC Villain Could The Shazamily Face Next?

The Shazamily has already fought two very powerful villains, with Dr. Sivana and Shazam! Fury of the Gods' Daughters of Atlas each targeting Billy because they want to take the powers of Shazam. Brody's choice of who the superhero family should face next not only continue to raise the stakes for the DCU, but also properly contrast the Shazamily's youthful naivete that wouldn't be interested in taking their powers. Lobo and Joker are already formidable opponents for two of DC's most famous superheroes, Superman and Batman.

The Joker is an interesting answer because of how opposite he is in tone and style from the magic of Shazam, but Lobo could be a perfect antagonist for Shazam. Lobo is a space mercenary and bounty hunter who has fought Superman before, which could introduce an interesting new tone to Shazam along with the mystery of who hired Lobo. Shazam is tied to the magic and Greek mythology of DC, but Lobo could be the perfect way to draw the character into the more cosmic corner of the DC Universe.

Although the future of Shazam in the DC Universe is unclear, especially after the disappointing opening weekend box office of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, he and his family are unique DC heroes. Hopefully the young heroes stories will continue within the DCU, exploring new corners and different types of villains separate from their own rogues. Following the defeat of the Daughters of Atlas, Shazam has proven himself to be truly formidable, which makes it the perfect time to introduce a new, even more terrifying villain.
