Rachel Zegler expresses her excitement over getting a Funko Pop doll for her Shazam! Fury of the Gods character, Anthea. The film will premiere on March 17, 2023, and will see Zegler portraying the role of one of the daughters of Atlas. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu will be portraying Atlas' older daughters, Hespera and Kalypso, respectively. Shazam! Fury of the Gods marks the first villain role that Zegler has taken on, as the daughters of Atlas are set to be the main antagonists of the film. They will be opposing Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his foster family of superheroes.Zegler recently took to Twitter to share her reaction to the Shazam! Fury of the Gods' Funk Pops. She expressed disbelief over the idea that she is now officially a Funko Pop and revealed several of the film's other Funko figures as well. How Shazam 2 Continues Rachel Zegler's Rise To Stardom
Zegler receiving a Funko Pop modeled after her is also a testimony to her unprecedented rise to fame. The young actor only just officially arrived on the Hollywood scene in 2021. However, in one short year, she has landed several significant roles in big films. Her rise to stardom started with Steven Spielberg's West Side Story remake, in which she played the lead role of Maria. Despite having no TV show or film credits, she was chosen from a pool of over 30,000 applicants for the role. Meanwhile, Zegler's acting and vocal skills made her a star overnight and earned her a Golden Globe for Best Actress.
Her impressive achievement quickly garnered her multiple film roles, but Shazam! Fury of the Gods will be the first film she will appear in since West Side Story. Appearing in the DCU is no small feat, considering it is one of the highest-grossing film franchises in the world. Superhero roles also mean there could be reprisals ahead; after appearing in Shazam 2, Zegler could very well return for sequels if her character survives. Meanwhile, her role as the complicated Anthea will be much different from her portrayal of a young lovestruck teen in the 1950s seen in West Side Story. It will allow viewers a chance to see another side of Zegler and give the actor an opportunity to show her merit as a well-rounded and adaptable actress.
Additionally, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will kick off what is going to be a huge year for Zegler. 2023 will also see her star in the lead role of Lucy Gray Baird in the highly anticipated Hunger Games prequel film, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. Then, in 2024, she will star as Snow White in Disney's live-action movie of the same name. She'll also make her voice-acting debut in the upcoming animated film Spellbound. Zegler is rising fast to stardom, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods will help further propel her fame by showing her versatility as an actress and welcoming her into a major superhero franchise.
