The Shazam Family is getting significant costume upgrades in Shazam: Fury of the Gods, as it changes their initial looks from 2019's Shazam. One of the DCEU's next chapters will be the follow-up to Shazam as Billy Batson and his foster family come together once more against another godlike threat. While most details are being kept under wrap, the Shazam Family will be facing Helen Mirren's Hespera, Lucy Liu's Kalypso, and Rachel Zegler's mystery character, who are the daughters of Atlas. These days it is becoming more common for superhero and comic book sequels to see the titular hero upgrade their costumes.

It can vary why sequels give the heroes new suits, with most of these alterations being related to practical reasons. Sometimes issues can come up during the production of a previous film, requiring the costume team to adjust the costume to make it more comfortable for the said actor. In other cases, it can actually be for plot reasons, like when Batman and Iron Man upgrade their armors and costumes. Not long ago, set photos revealed Zachary Levi donning a new Shazam costume, but he won't be the only one. To beat paparazzi to it, director David Sandberg unveiled an official look of the entire Shazam Family having fresh new looks in Shazam 2.

While it is heavily based on the original Shazam looks, some specific differences make them stand out when compared to the initial outfits. Surprisingly, the Shazam 2 costumes blend in more with the overall aesthetics in the DCEU, more so than their original suits in the first film. In the first installment, the family's suits had very bright colors, but for their 2.0. looks, they have toned it down extensively. This decision seems a wise one if the films are to fit into the larger franchise - as even though the costumes always looked solid, they did stand out just a little too much compared to the rest of the DCEU's roster of heroes. Outside the colors getting a tone shift, the material seems completely new and moves away from the spandex in Shazam.

Shazam 2 Fury of the Gods new costumes

When Levi's new costume was revealed, it became very clear from the set photos that the new material looks far closer to armor, in the same vein as Aquaman and Superman's DCEU suits. That is the case for the entire Shazam Family, which may allude to just how challenging their new villains will be in Shazam 2. Something that has been removed completely from the original suits is the hoods, as they are now sporting regular capes. Given how Billy even only used the hood for one scene in the entire first film, it makes sense to remove them if they weren't going to be used anyway.

Another nice touch is how each Shazam member has their own stylized boots, unlike the original ones, where they essentially had the exact same style. The only unanswered question for Shazam 2 is how the new DCEU costumes factor into the story. Do they use their powers to upgrade their previous looks, or do they get the armors from a mystery player? Only time will tell, but the Shazam: Fury of the Gods costumes are definitely something to look forward to, especially in motion.
