Zachary Levi, star of the hit 2019 film Shazam!, reveals that his new costume for Shazam: Fury of the Gods is missing one key feature, the ability to go to the bathroom. Despite the movie being two years away from hitting theaters, director David F. Sandberg recently revealed Levi's new Shazam outfit in all its glory. Like its predecessor, Shazam: Fury of the Gods centers on 14-year-old foster child Billy Batson who can transform into an adult superhero by saying the name "Shazam."
Though exact details about the sequel's plot are not known at this time, Billy's foster family of heroes (all children also with the ability to transform into grown superheroes) have already been announced to make a return. The first Shazam! proved to be a big hit for the DCEU, earning $366 million worldwide at the box office and receiving generally positive reviews from critics, which helped bring humor and heart to a slightly struggling franchise. DC Films is attempting to improve on the success from the first movie by upgrading Shazam's costume for the sequel, though Levi still feels there is one key feature missing.
Thanks to a fan inquiry on Twitter, it appears that Shazam 2's production has to include time for removing Levi's suit whenever he needs a bathroom break. Levi jokingly reveals that his new costume is still missing the ability to go to the bathroom.
Levi's new costume was first revealed in a series of set photos, giving fans a little tease of what to expect from the sequel. Despite little context about the new outfit, it is definitely an upgrade from the previous film. With different gauntlets and bits of silver running throughout, the new suit doesn't appear to be padded like the previous costume, making it feel a bit more realistic. While the new look did receive some initial blowback from fans when it was first revealed, others argued that the overly muscled design better reflects what a 14-year-old Billy would think a superhero should look like. From the tweet above, it's clear that Levi has his own criticism about the outfit as well.
Critics praised the first film for its blend of humor and heart after previous films under Zack Snyder's direction took a darker approach to the superhero genre. Levi's performance as the titular superhero lit up the screen from the sheer fact that he seemed like he was having a good time playing the role. From his critique of the new costume, it's good to see that his sense of humor will be returning for Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
