The killer shark movie subgenre is getting another unique entry in Sharkula, and the trailer is now live. Far removed from the classics like Jaws and Deep Blue Sea, unconventional, low-budget shark films like 2-Headed Shark Attack existed before the wildly popular Sharknado franchise. But since the 2013 Syfy production was released, the concepts somehow get even stranger, leading to such titles as Ghost Shark, Raiders of the Lost Shark, and Shark Exorcist. Now, shark movie veteran Mark Polonia returns with another bizarre vision.

RUEMORGUEMAGAZINE has released the trailer for Polonia's newest venture, Sharkula, on YouTube. The film appears much like the director's past works (e.g., Shark Encounters of the Third Kind, Empire of the Apes), a schlocky mashup or spinoff of established films or genres made with little financing. Frequent Polonia Brothers Entertainment collaborator Jeff Kirkendall plays Dracula, supernaturally bonded with a vampire shark feeding on sacrifices provided by the iconic monster and his servant, Renfield (Kyle Rappaport). The trailer comes on the heels of the preview of another of Polonia's efforts, Amityville in Space.

Sharkula also casts Jamie Morgan as Mina, Titus Himmelberger, Tim Hatch, Natalie Himmelberger, Yolie Canales, James Kelly, and Matina Steiner. Rob Hauschild produces the film with star Kirkendall acting as Associate Producer. On top of directing, Polonia also wrote and edited. While it appears to be the silliest shark attack movie to come out in 2022 so far, Polonia undoubtedly wishes to capitalize on the recent buzz about higher-profile movies like The Requin and the upcoming Meg 2: The Trench. Even if it doesn't have the budget or the dramatic intrigue of those films, Sharkula looks to be enjoyable in its own particular way, much like the unmistakable fun of similar entries like Sharktopus or Jurassic Shark. Wild Eye Releasing launches Sharkula this June.
