If you're a fan of flying hammerhead sharks landing jaws-open on innocent people's heads, the upcoming SyFy movie, Sharknado: The 4th Awakens, will excite you. One of the most ridiculous franchises in made-for-television film history is back again with more tornadoes, sharks, and of course, more B-list celebrity cameos.

Being the fourth entry in the (somehow) popular action disaster series, director Anthony C. Ferrante must be doing something right, even if it's showing how far the "it's so bad, it's good" phenomenon can really take a property. It also saddens us to tell you that although star Tara Reid does get equipped with a lightsaber arm in this Sharknado trailer, the film itself has next to nothing in common with the franchise far, far away. Sure, taking the idea of shark-filled tornadoes into the world of Star Wars would be a stretch on the budget, but let's admit that we'd all be tuning in were that the case.

In the official press release from SyFy,  Sharknado: The 4th Awakens is already being heralded as a triumphant return of the made-for-television disaster film event. The new movie is set to pick up five years after the events of Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!, with franchise protagonist Fin Shepard (Ian Ziering) at the head of everything soon to come as “His family and the cosmos have been blissfully sharknado-free in the intervening years, but now sharks – and ‘nados! – are being whipped up in places (and ways) least expected.

As you can see in the first official trailer above, ZNN reports that the world has been sharknado-free for five years. But little do they know disaster is about to strike in the most glamorous of all party places - Las Vegas, eventually moving on to all major U.S cities, and even taking down the popular Space Needle landmark in Seattle (Syfy is clearly putting its efforts aping Independence Day to good use this time around). As the shark storm hits, mass hysteria - as always - ensues, causing panicked, slaughtered crowds all trying to evacuate (with a to-be-expected cameo from comedian Carrot Top).

We also see the first ever "Oilnado" and "Firenado" (which we can only assume have sharks swirling around inside of them too), but it appears the fourth instalment will be taking cues from the blockbuster sci-fi movies, as well as disaster films (armored mechs included). Well, that and Magic Mike-style dancers whose moves are even lethal to flying sharks.

Heroic characters return including actors David Hasselhoff as Gil Shepard, Ryan Newman as Claudia Shepard, Ian Ziering as Fin Shepard,  and Tara Ried as April Wexler - alongside newcomers Gary Busey, Tommy Davidson, Imani Hakim, Cody Linley, Masiela Lusha, and Cheryl Tiegs. teaming up in search of chainsaws, big guns, and any other weapons they can use to save the world from complete and utter sharktastrophe.

Sharknado: The 4th Awakens will premiere July 31st, 2016 at 8pm EST on SyFy.
