Following Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' successful weekend at the box office, Simu Liu celebrated the film's strong performance with a tweet, posting a joke alongside a stock photo he modeled in during his early career. Liu stars as the titular character in the next chapter of Phase 4 of the MCU. The film was released in theaters on September 3 to a strong positive reception, with critics rating it as one of the highest among other MCU films, earning a percentage of 92% and Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings took audiences and critics alike by storm, being praised for its exploration and representation of Asian culture, choreography, and Liu, Tony Leung, and Meng'er Zhang's performances. Commercially, the film has also been a hit, smashing Labor Day weekend box office records by taking in $90 million during its opening weekend. Having exceeded many box office projections that predicted a lower opening weekend due to audience hesitancy amidst the spread of the COVID-19 Delta Variant, Marvel has much to celebrate, and its lead star has celebrated its success online.

On his personal Twitter account, Liu posted a tweet that poked fun at those who were skeptical on whether the film would perform well. The tweet read "Me laughing at the people who thought we’d flop," with an image featuring Liu himself and two other people laughing at a laptop screen. The photo originates from Liu's early career, where the star modeled for stock photos. Check out Liu's tweet below:

While preparing for the premiere of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu took questions from his followers over Twitter, with one fan asking him about his stock photography modeling, and what would happen to the photos he's featured in. Liu responded by saying he signed away the rights, using the salary to pay off credit card debt, and that he had no control of what would happen with them. Liu has also previously talked about his pre-Shang-Chi career while promoting the film, opening upon Jimmy Kimmel Live about a time during his early career where he performed as Spider-Man for children's parties one summer.

With Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings receiving an opening weekend that has blown apart many expectations and defied critics, Liu is sure to have much to celebrate going forward. The star has grown from being a fan to starring in one of Marvel's most significant films as the studios' first Asian lead. Liu's recent celebratory tweet is not only a fun jab at those who doubted the film but also a fun way to show how far the actor has come in his career. With Marvel officially calling Shang-Chi an Avenger, audiences wait with anticipation to see where Liu will appear next.
