A video taken from the set of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings reveals the first look at stars Simu Liu and Awkwafina as their characters. Filming on the upcoming MCU movie had only just begun prior to its production being suspended because of growing concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. Director Destin Daniel Cretton was even tested for COVID-19 after it was believed he may have been infected, but those test results ultimately came back negative. Still, filming on Shang-Chi (as well as pretty much all other current movies and TV shows) is currently on hold as countries continue battling the outbreak.

Shang-Chi stars Liu in the title role, a Marvel hero with no superpowers but who is an extremely talented martial artist. Plot specifics are unsurprisingly still under wraps, but the movie is also starring Tony Leung as the Mandarin (the true Mandarin, that is) and leader of the Ten Rings organization. Awkwafina has also been cast in Shang-Chi, but her role is currently unknown. She features in this video alongside Liu, and while it may not reveal much about her mystery role or the film in general, it does give at least a little context for their characters' relationship.

In a video captured by Twitter user @charlesbassf of the filming for Shang-Chi that had been taking place in Australia prior to shutdowns, both Liu and Awkwafina can be seen walking down the street and approaching some kind of shady establishment. It's impossible to say for sure what it is their characters are scoping out, but the source of the video describes it as a night club or hidden facility. Given what we do we know about Shang-Chi's plot, perhaps the building is somehow related to the Ten Rings? Regardless, what the video does offer is the very first look at Liu and Awkwafina on set as their characters, and judging by their body language, it appears they're working together as allies in some capacity for at least a portion of the film. Check out the video from the set of Shang-Chi, below.

As Liu and Awkwafina arrive at the front of the building, they both look up, again suggesting this is a scene of the two doing a little reconnaissance work before some bigger entanglement with the people inside. This is all merely speculation, of course, but the scene's setting and their (however brief) actions within in do fit such a scenario. Along with that, the short video also gives a look at how Shang-Chi is dressing their Australia location to mimic the streets of China, again suggesting this scene involves a secret Ten Rings hideout found in some back alley.

It remains unknown exactly when most major film productions can return to filming, and as such, most movie release dates are being delayed. Shang-Chi is no different, and the movie is now set to hit theaters on May 7, 2021. That's a prime release date for the MCU, and its placement there is a good sign that Marvel has faith in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings being another of their hit blockbusters.
