New toys for Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings confirm how the MCU is changing the Mandarin's Ten Rings of Power. Shang-Chi was officially announced at Comic-Con in 2019 and was expected to arrive earlier this year. However, when the coronavirus pandemic forced a reshuffling of the release calendar, the film was pushed back considerably. Currently, Shang-Chi is scheduled for September. Marvel has just begun to properly promote the movie, with the first Shang-Chi trailer and images debuting online earlier this week.

Up until the trailer release, little was known about Shang-Chi save what could be gleaned from leaked information. Now, several new details have been revealed, including things about the main villain Wenwu, aka the Mandarin (Tony Leung). In the movie, the Mandarin is Shang-Chi's (Simu Liu) father, taking over from the comics' Fu Manchu. The Mandarin is known to have ten rings which give him various powers. However, the first Shang-Chi trailer appeared to adjust these artifacts, instead turning them into arm bands. They only received a quick glimpse, but that was enough to raise some questions.

Two toys from Hasbro's Shang-Chi line confirm the adjustment the MCU is making to the Mandarin's Rings of Power. The first, an action figure of Wenwu, depicts him in the middle of what the packaging calls a "Ten Rings Power Attack!" It looks like ice is encircling his arms, indicating the arm bands hold the same powers as the rings from the comics. Additionally, kids can get their own "Legend of the Ten Rings Blaster," which they can wear as a sort of gauntlet and shoot blue disks. Check them out below.

Much like Shang-Chi's own origins, it looks like the Mandarin's chosen weapon has been updated for the MCU. The reason for the change isn't quite clear, but it should be interesting to see how he wields the bands' powers in live-action form. The Ten Rings will still have a hand in Shang-Chi, with Wenwu leading up the terrorist organization of the same name that was first teased in Iron Man.

Early reactions to the Shang-Chi trailer have been overwhelmingly positive, indicating fans are quite excited to finally welcome the hero to the MCU. Those unfamiliar with his comics background are eager to learn more about him, while fans of the source material may even find themselves pleasantly surprised by the changes taking place. Shang-Chi won't be directly copying the comics, so there are bound to be lots of twists ahead. Sadly, the movie is still months away, but now that new promotional materials are emerging, the wait just got a lot easier.
