Tickets for Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings are now on sale. After a year of no movie releases, the MCU has come back with a vengeance in 2021. In addition to several high-profile Disney+ shows, Marvel is currently planning on releasing four movies in theaters. Black Widow arrived first in July and received a dual Disney+ Premier Access release (which has led to a major lawsuit with star Scarlett Johansson). Next up is Shang-Chi, the MCU's first Asian-led movie. Starring Simu Liu as the titular hero, Shang-Chi was once slated for release in February this year before being delayed by the coronavirus pandemic.
Shang-Chi tells the origin story of the hero who, in Marvel Comics, is known as the Master of Kung Fu. When the movie begins, Shang-Chi has spent years distancing himself from the criminal organization run by his father, the Mandarin (Tony Leung). However, he's soon pulled back to the Ten Rings, and he must confront his past in order to move on to a better future. Shang-Chi also stars Awkwafina, Meng'er Zhang, Fala Chen, Benedict Wong, and Michelle Yeoh.
On Monday, the same day as Shang-Chi's world premiere, Marvel announced tickets have officially gone on sale. This is just about two weeks before it debuts in theaters on September 3. The news came alongside a promo featuring glimpses of past Marvel heroes before announcing the arrival of a new "legend." Check it out below.

Shang-Chi arrives at a complicated time for moviegoing. Though the box office appeared to be on an upward trajectory earlier this year, things have dipped amid new concerns over the Delta variant. Black Widow holds the record for the biggest opening of the pandemic with $80 million, but Shang-Chi's box office projection has it coming in much lower. Shang-Chi is currently expected to debut to somewhere between $35 million and $55 million, which would still be a good number for the pandemic, but on the low side for the MCU. With a few weeks left to go before it arrives, these numbers could change.
Last week, there were some rumblings online of Shang-Chi perhaps going to Disney+ as Black Widow did. However, during Disney's quarterly earnings call, CEO Bob Chapek stuck by the theatrical plan and even called it an "experiment." Liu fired back and called on fans to come out to see Shang-Chi when it arrives. Now those planning on seeing it on September 3 and in the days after can start to make their plans. Tickets are available for purchasing now, and the early sales can perhaps indicate which way Shang-Chi is headed in its highly-anticipated debut.
