This post contains spoilers for Shang-Chi

Captain Marvel star Brie Larson welcomes Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings' Simu Liu to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With 2019's Avengers: Endgame marking the end of the Infinity Saga and serving as a sendoff to some of the franchise's original heroes, Phase 4 finds the MCU going through a transitional era. While a number of Marvel's projects released this year have featured established characters, Phase 4 also introduces a bevy of fresh faces to the ever-expanding universe. One of the more prominent newcomers is Shang-Chi, who finally debuted in his own solo movie.

Based on the early returns, Shang-Chi is shaping up to be another winner for Marvel. The film is Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes and Shang-Chi is off to a great start at the box office (considering the circumstances). This means Shang-Chi is a character audiences are looking forward to seeing more of in the future, and one of Liu's MCU co-stars is among those excited to see him join the franchise.

Much like Liu, Larson figures to be a key figure in the MCU moving forward. After headlining the $1 billion hit Captain Marvel and appearing in Avengers: Endgame, the actress is reprising Carol Danvers in the upcoming The Marvels. In the sequel, Larson will share the spotlight with Iman Vellani and Teyonah Parris, but Carol will still likely have a big role in the franchise for the foreseeable future. As such, it's nice to see Larson happily greet Liu to the MCU. In the past, the MCU stars have formed close bonds and friendships offscreen, so that will hopefully continue as the franchise ushers in a new wave of heroes.

Marvel hasn't announced anything yet, but the Shang-Chi post-credits scenes essentially confirmed there are big plans for Shang-Chi (and other supporting characters) in the MCU's future. It will be interesting to see what unfolds. Shang-Chi could get a solo sequel, or perhaps his next appearance will be in a team-up ensemble (maybe alongside Captain Marvel). Marvel Studios is renowned for their long-form planning, but they've admitted they're still in the stages of figuring out the next Avengers roster. Right now, their focus was on releasing Shang-Chi, and now that they know it's successful, they can start to iron out what comes next for the character. No matter what happens, Larson will be alongside viewers cheering Liu on.
