Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings gets a stunning poster design in a new piece of fan art. The 25th entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe follows its Master of Kung-Fu, Shang-Chi (Simu Liu) who, after living in San Francisco for ten years, is forced to confront his past and the clandestine Ten Rings ran by his father, The (real) Mandarin. Much like director Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, Destin Daniel Cretton’s Shang-Chi represents a huge step forward for onscreen diversity with a predominately Asian and Asian-American cast led by Liu and including Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Michelle Yeoh, and Fala Chen.

Shang-Chi would've been the third film released as part of Marvel’s Phase 4; however, like was the case with many films last year, the coronavirus pandemic forced it to be delayed numerous times, which only exacerbated fan anticipation. The film is now set for a September 3rd theatrical release followed by a Disney+ release 45 days later—over a year after its original release date. In April, Marvel unveiled the first poster for Shang-Chi before surprising everyone by dropping the first trailer on Liu’s 32nd birthday. That trailer boasts a globe-trotting and century-spanning epic that looks to feature some of the MCU’s best action sequences yet.

Digital artist, Nicolas Tetreault-Abel, recently posted a Shang-Chi poster design to Instagram. The piece sees its hero surrounded by ten rings and supporting characters above a fight with the Death Dealer amid a Chinese backdrop. Check it out below:

Aside from the MCU’s much-hyped multiverse, Shang-Chi will arguably expand the universe’s lore more than any Phase 4 film; introducing the history of the Ten Rings, retconning The Mandarin, and potentially rebooting Marvel characters like Iron Fist. Those involved with the project aim to live up to the main character’s legacy as well as cultural impact. Liu has reportedly done the majority of his own stunts, and Cretton has cited Jackie Chan and Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon as influences for Shang-Chi, paying homage to martial arts films of yesteryear.

In the three months leading up to the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, fans will likely get all sorts of new information, footage, and images. As the first poster only featured Liu in a comics-accurate costume, it’s not hard to imagine the next one reminiscent of the one above. Hopefully, whatever Marvel Studios and Disney unveil next continues to be as stunning as everything we’ve seen so far.
