A new image from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings sees Simu Liu's titular hero and Awkwafina's best friend Katy as parking valets. The character of Shang-Chi was first created by Steve Englehart and Jim Starlin and made his debut in 1973's Special Marvel Edition No. 15. Shang-Chi has appeared in a few mobile games, but Liu will be bringing the character to life for the first time in a film or TV project.

After languishing in development hell for 20 years, Shang-Chi is finally seeing the light of day with Liu and Awkwafina leading a cast that also includes Tony Leung as the Mandarin, Michelle Yeoh, Fala Chen, Florian Munteanu, and Ronny Chieng. The story will see Liu's titular hero forced to confront the past he thought he left behind when his father's clandestine Ten Rings organization reemerges. As with many films last year, the movie has suffered multiple delays due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but its time is nearly here.

With just two months left until the film's release, Entertainment Weekly offered a new look at Shang-Chi. In addition to interviews with the cast and crew, a new image was revealed with Liu and Awkwafina's characters in parking valet attire. Check out the new image below:

Given Liu's hero sought to leave his father's criminal organization for a normal life in San Francisco, it makes plenty of sense Shang-Chi would have to take on a day job. More so, he'd want to keep a low profile and blend in, and there are few jobs more unassuming than a parking valet, especially at what appears to be a luxury hotel where guests are likely to throw their keys without even glancing at the attendant. Plus, what better way to make friends than bonding with a coworker over the hell endured on a daily basis from clientele who care far more about their sports car than their manners?

With the story set to explore the hero's normal life being upended by the return of the Ten Rings organization, it will be interesting to see how much of the parking day job will be featured in the film before diving right into the action. Based on the MCU's prior origin story efforts, there likely won't be much of one, but given how ingrained the non-heroic life of Liu's character is to his arc, it could be a nice change of pace to see him going through the motions of customer service a bit before showing off his martial arts skills. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings arrives on September 3.
