A new photo featuring Benedict Wong and Simu Liu together has sparked speculation the former will appear in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Marvel Studios confirmed plans to make a solo film for the Master of Kung Fu last year at San Diego Comic-Con. The announcement came with the reveal that Simu Liu will play the lead role, while Tony Leung was announced as the real Mandarin.

Ever since, fans have been wondering what other actors will be part of the movie as Marvel has not shared many details on it. Awkwafina was the only other cast member confirmed for Shang-Chi at SDCC 2019, and several others have been rumored since. High profile additions like Michelle Yeoh or the addition of newer actors like Florian Munteanu have been teased, with both fanning the flames of their involvement through social media posts. Production is back underway in Australia following a COVID-19 enforced shutdown, and now a familiar face in the MCU might be involved.

Benedict Wong has played Wong in three MCU movies so far and was last seen in Avengers: Endgame. Wong does not currently have any projects in production according to his IMDb, and he has now been spotted in Australia with Shang-Chi star Simu Liu. The official Instagram page for KOGI Korean BBQ in Australia recently shared a photo of Wong and Liu stopping by for a bite to eat. Since filming is currently taking place and Wong has an established character in the MCU, this could be a sign that he'll appear in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

There has so far been no official indication by Marvel, Wong, or anyone involved with Shang-Chi that Wong will make an appearance, but this photo is intriguing nonetheless. The caption of the photo even could be read as an indication that this isn't the first time the two have dined at the restaurant. While fans continue to speculate over if Wong will make an appearance in the film, whether or not his role is ultimately confirmed remains to be seen. Even if he is in the movie, there's the chance that his role won't be featured in future marketing materials, leaving it up to the release of the film to reveal his involvement - or lack thereof.

If Wong does have a role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings though, the implication of an appearance by a Master of the Mystic Arts is fascinating to consider. The Mandarin is a character in the comics who has ties to magic, so Shang-Chi could meet Wong as he learns more about his possible magic powers. It's even possible that the Mandarin's ten rings could have ties to magic in the MCU, instead of them originating from ancient dragon-like aliens. This even makes the original Phase 4 plan to have Shang-Chi be the last film before Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness intriguing if Wong is meant to have roles in both films. But, we'll just have to wait and see if Wong's role in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings happens or if this is just another case of fans making something out of nothing.
