Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings star Simu Liu gets in on the Marvel fun by trash talking his fellow Avengers. Playfully, of course. Had Marvel's original Phase 4 plan played out as expected, Liu would only be one month away from his MCU debut. The Kim's Convenience star was officially cast as Shang-Chi, the franchise's first Asian lead on the film side, in 2019, and his first movie was scheduled for February 2021. Sadly, however, Shang-Chi was one of the many movies affected by the coronavirus pandemic, leading to a disruption in production last year.

Additionally, Shang-Chi shifted release dates multiple times. Currently, it is scheduled for July 9 of this year, a date Liu shared his enthusiastic support for when it was first announced. Shang-Chi's supporting cast was confirmed in December during Disney's Investor Day. In addition to Liu, the film will star the likes of Awkwafina, Tony Leung, Ronny Chieng, and Michelle Yeoh. It's said that Shang-Chi's plot will find the hero confronting his past as he gets involved with the villainous Ten Rings organization.

Fans are still waiting to properly welcome Liu into the MCU, but the actor has already integrated himself into the world with ease. In a new interview with Toronto LifeLiu got playful when he was asked to pick a winner between four Marvel characters: Shang-Chi, Iron Man, the Hulk, and Black Widow. Liu didn't even hesitate to show support for his own alter ego, saying:

I win! Shang-Chi. I could debate this as a fan for hours, but now that I’ve got some skin in the game, I have to think I could take any of these guys on. Shang-Chi can definitely throw a punch. As for his other skills and powers, you’ll have to wait and see.

Simu Liu in Kim's Convenience

Hypothetical character battles are nothing new in the world of Marvel (just look at the eternal battle of the Hulk vs Wolverine). However, Liu's answer is delightfully funny. Even as he acknowledges he might pick differently as a fan, he has to support his own character now that he's in the Marvel universe himself. Additionally, Liu provided a nice tease for Shang-Chi, hinting that his hero has some exciting powers and skills for fans to uncover. This just makes one wish the first trailer for Shang-Chi was already here so we could get an idea of what's in store.

Liu has been nothing but a delightful presence online ever since he was first cast as Shang-Chi, and at this point, it would be really nice if his performance could actually be viewed already. Through some videos on social media, Liu has teased his fighting skills, and fans are eager to see them get put into action in Shang-Chi. Hopefully, Shang-Chi won't endure any further delays so people can finally get excited about this new movie. Things are so uncertain, though, that only time will tell how this shakes out.
