Actor Florian Munteanu, who plays Razor Fist in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has teased a greater backstory for his character in the film's sequel. Shang-Chi introduces a new hero to the MCU in Simu Liu's eponymous master of the martial arts. The film sees him drawn back into the clandestine world of the Ten Rings organization led by his father Wenwu (Tony Leung), aka the true Mandarin, who wishes to use the Ten Rings for an undertaking that could have devastating consequences on the world.

A former heavyweight boxer, Munteanu plays one of Wenwu's henchmen who has a machete for an arm. He is initially sent to San Francisco to recover Shang-Chi's pendant given to him by his mother, leading to the spectacular bus fight early on the film. Razor Fist is later seen as part of the Ten Rings' invasion team sent to Ta Lo, too. While initially presented as a typical henchman, he quickly proves memorable and even slightly more morally conscious than initially thought, urging his men to aid the people of Ta Lo when the consequences of Wenwu's plan fully materialize.

Speaking to SR ahead of the film's release, Munteanu stated that, when it comes to Razor Fist, "there's a lot of background story that hasn't been told yet." He added that this is something that may be built upon in either a Shang-Chi sequel or another film within the MCU. Read Munteanu's full statement below:

"Oh yeah, that was always the plan, to give him a much more important role. And we’ll see where that leads. There’s a lot of background story that hasn’t been told yet, because obviously this is an origin story about Shang-Chi. So we’ll see what happens in the future with Razor Fist in the MCU."

Razor Fist fights Shang-Chi on the bus

It's understandable why Razor Fist's backstory isn't explored in Shang-Chi. As Munteanu says, "this is an origin story about Shang-Chi," so naturally the film spends a great deal of time focusing on that character's history with his family. Taking the time to showcase the backstory of every side-character would only bog the story down. Still, that's not to say that it wouldn't be interesting to know more about the character, including how he received his trademark weapon and become involved in the Ten Rings organization.

With Razor Fist being presented as part of Xialing's (Meng'er Zhang) new Ten Rings in Shang-Chi's post-credit scene, there are clear signs for the character to potentially return. Moreover, with the scene promising that "The Ten Rings will return," it seems more than likely that fans may see him and his cohorts appear in some capacity elsewhere in the MCU, possibly even before Shang-Chi 2. Hopefully that will be in an increased role that will allow Munteanu to show off more of the character and delve further into his backstory should such an opportunity present itself.
