Showtime has set the release date for Shameless' season 11; the show, which began in 2011, will air its final run starting December 2020.  Developed by John Wells, Shameless is the American take on Paul Abbott's British comedy-drama series of the same name. The show, which is touted to be the longest-running scripted series in Showtime's history, features an ensemble cast including William H. Macy, Cameron Monaghan, Jeremy Allen White, Noel Fisher, Steve Howey, Emma Kenney, Ethan Cutkosky, Shanola Hampton, Christian Isaiah, and Kate Miner. Initially, Shameless featured Emmy Rossum in the lead role as well, but Rossum quit the show after season 9. Shameless was primed to broadcast its final season this summer, but the show was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and now it will premiere in December instead.

Variety confirmed on Tuesday that Shameless season 11 will debut on Showtime, December 6, 2020. The show's final season will follow the main characters as they grapple with the lethal Covid-19 pandemic. Shameless season 11 will also focus on gentrification and difficulties in accepting the passing of age. In season 11, Frank (Macy) questions his moral standing, while Lip (White) struggles to come to terms with the fact that he is the new family patriarch. Ian (Monaghan) and Mickey (Fisher) also figure out their matrimonial duties, and Deb (Kenney) accepts her individuality and takes up motherhood single-handedly. Kevin (Howey) and V (Hampton) contemplate their challenging South Side life and Carl (Cutkosky) astonishingly takes up a job in law enforcement.

Fans will certainly have a lot to miss once Shameless bows out of Showtime. But the show's postponed ending feels quite timely and logical. After confronting the issues within their household, the Gallagher family is headed to take on a completely new challenge, which is not much different from the viewers' own situation nowadays. The final season's delayed premiere also allows Shameless to stretch into 2021, so hopefully, the Gallagher family will be able to entertain fans over the holidays with its quirks and eccentric festive get-togethers one last time.
