Buzz continues to build for director Steven McQueen's new film Shame, a psycho-sexual-drama starring Michael Fassbender as a New York man consumed with sexual addiction.

We've already posted the Shame teaser trailer and full trailer, and response has been pretty positive; Fassbender has a growing (and loyal) legion of fans, thanks to his roles in films like X-Men: First Class, Inglourious Basterds, and 300. However, those previous trailers have offered a relatively safe (read: green-band) look at this film; for a better idea of why it has earned a controversial NC-17 rating, you may want to check out the red-band trailer we have to offer today.

Before we get to the (semi-)scandalous red-band trailer, check out a synopsis for Shame below:

Opening in North American theaters on December 2, the NC-17 drama stars Michael Fassbender as Brandon, a New Yorker who shuns intimacy with women but feeds his desires with a compulsive addiction to sex. When his wayward younger sister (Carey Mulligan) moves into his apartment stirring memories of their shared painful past, Brandon's insular life spirals out of control.

Now take a look at the red-band trailer, with the obvious forewarning that it is absolutely NSFW:

This is a fairly easy prospect to break down: Fassbender is a great actor, he and McQueen made something harrowingly special with their previous collaboration, Hunger, and it looks like they will once again catch lightning in the bottle with this film. If you're a fan of indie cinema, be sure to check this one out - and if you're waiting to learn more about it, check back for our official Screen Rant review later this week.

Shame will be in limited release in US theaters on December 2, 2011.
