As fans rally to save their beloved Shadowhunters from cancellation, deep-rooted support has come in the form of the show's leading lady Katherine McNamara. McNamara, who plays angelic hearted Clary Fray, has come forward in a recent interview to share her love for fans, the show and the astounding outcry to #SaveShadowhunters.
Freeform shocked fans of the show in June when they announced "the very difficult decision" to cancel Shadowhunters. Following the announcement, fans have rallied for the show's return in a crescendoing display of dedication. What started as a simple Twitter hashtag escalated into a fundraising campaign to save the show. Just this past Friday, fans rented a billboard in Times Square for five minutes to promote the hope of saving Shadowhunters, this following a plane trip over Netflix HQ days before to encourage the streaming giant to consider acquiring the property and producing new content. With shows like Lucifer and Brooklyn Nine-Nine finding themselves new homes following their cancellations, fans of the angelic demon fighters hope to accomplish the same.
In an interview with ShumDario News, McNamara was candid on a variety of topics regarding the show and her relationships with her fellow cast members, but more importantly, the potential future of Shadowhunters. Sadly, when asked about the future of the show MacNamara responded honestly by saying, "Basically, we have no idea what's going to happen with the show." While this is sure to bring disappointment to fans as they wait with baited breath to hear if the show will be picked up by another network or streamer, they can find relief in the fact that their efforts have not gone unnoticed.
"We know what kind of fandom we have," McNamara commented regarding fans, "but seeing it first hand and seeing you guys come out of the woodwork to support us was mind blowing." McNamara, who has joined the hashtag frenzy pinning her own #SaveShadowhunters post, promised fans that if the show does have to come to an end, they will deliver "the most kickass series finale you have ever seen... Because we have the chance to end it right."
While it has been announced that Shadowhunters is ending, Freeform did promise fans that the show would finish out the second half of season 3, concluding with a two-hour series finale. Shadowhunters' mid-season finale ended with an explosive cliffhanger, and assurance of at least a conclusion was one of the best options the network could have provided to fans following a cancellation. With a chance to end the show on their terms and promise to make it all worth it, if Shadowhunters is truly coming to an end, fans can expect it to be an epic and satisfying conclusion.
Yet, fans are unwilling to accept this potential outcome, doing everything and anything they can to save their show. And with cast members like McNamara acknowledging the efforts, fans can rest assured they are not going unnoticed. With Shadowhunters not scheduled to return until next year, there is still plenty of time for fans to fight and hope.
Shadowhunters' epic conclusion returns to Freeform in 2019.
