Update: Watch the Shadow of the Tomb Raider trailer!

Camilla Luddington returns this fall as Lara Croft in the third instalment of the modern Tomb Raider video game franchise. Relaunched and re-envisioned in 2013, Tomb Raider has become one of the best video game franchises on the market. The 2015 followup which launched as a timed exclusive on Xbox One was our game of the year and the third installment, Shadow of the Tomb Raider rounds out the trilogy of this new origin tale later this year.

Last night, publisher Square Enix and developers Eidos Montreal and Crystal Dynamics unveiled Shadow of the Tomb Raider at events in Montreal, London, and Los Angeles, and today we can finally share the new trailer (watch it here!), screenshots, artwork, and details.

At the Montreal event we got to go hands-on with Shadow of the Tomb Raider, playing through the first hour of the game. As teased at the end of Rise of the Tomb RaiderShadow brings Lara and best friend Jonah Maiava down south to take on the Maya apocalypse and explore the jungle, much more dangerous tombs, and even some underwater ones.

Lara, as we'll explain in our gameplay preview and interview with lead writer Jill Murray and Senior Brand Director Rich Briggs, is more confident and determined than ever before. But her singular focus and drive cause her to make some questionable decisions. She's the predator now and she can use the jungle environment to hide, track, and take out enemies of the mysterious Trinity organization who are responsible for her father's death.

David Anfossi, Head of Studio at Eidos-Montréal:

“Shadow of the Tomb Raider will challenge Lara Croft in new and unexpected ways. Our team has created a diverse set of skills, combat techniques and equipment for players to master, and they’ll certainly need them if they hope to survive the deadly jungle environments and tombs.”

Yosuke Matsuda, president and representative director of Square Enix:

“Thanks to their incredible expertise, knowledge of the franchise and outstanding creativity, Eidos-Montréal, in collaboration with Crystal Dynamics, is delivering a powerful experience with Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Shadow of the Tomb Raider will take the series to new heights and Lara Croft to new depths.”
