Square Enix kicked off its E3 2018 presentation with a bang, courtesy of a new piece of gameplay footage from Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The third part of Lara Croft's rebooted adventures, the title looks set to turn up Lara's own hunting instincts this time around, bringing the character closer to her position in the original games.

That said, the game will also want to include the same amount of story-driven impact that its two predecessors have given. Alongside fantastic gameplay, the new Tomb Raider games have done a great job of packing a narrative punch, and so a lot is expected of Shadow of the Tomb Raider. With the game also looking stunning from a design perspective, this could be Lara's most impactful episode to date.

At the very least, it looks as though the adventurer is going to be doing her fair share of hunting in the game. In the new gameplay video showcased by Square Enix, Lara Croft was able to stealthily take down enemies, moving through the environment with ease. The gameplay trailer in question can be seen above, along with a quick cinematic.

In this particular scene, Lara is initially being hunted down by a team of killers. However, before long the hunters become the hunted, with Lara taking them down quickly and quietly, using a range of different attacks including stealth knife kills from above and her trademark bow. Meanwhile, a quick duck into camouflage seems to make the treasure hunter that much more difficult to find - a serious problem for these hired guns.

As well as the gameplay itself, the cinematic also shows the level of danger that Shadow of the Tomb Raider will put players in. It's a tense scene to watch as Lara's plane goes down and she becomes separated from Jonah, and there's a level of quality to the cinematic that quite clearly points towards the $100 million dollar development costs that the game accrued.

All in all, Shadow of the Tomb Raider is gearing up to be quite something. Although there are still certain aspects of the game that are yet to be fully addressed, such as the title's mysterious multiplayer mode, there's still been enough here to get fans of the series excited. When the game releases on September 14, 2018, players will be able to tell exactly how it shapes up.
