Shadow and Bone season 2 has added four new cast members bringing more popular book characters to life. The series, which premiered on Netflix in April 2021, is based on the Grishaverse book series by young adult fantasy author Leigh Bardugo.  The series stars Jessie Mei Li as Alina Starkov, Archie Renaux, Freddy Carter, Amita Suman,  Kit Young, Ben Barnes, and Zoë Wanamaker.

Season 1 adapted the first novel, Shadow and Bone, which follows orphan Alina Starkov, who must use her newfound power to face off against the supernatural menace known as the Shadow Fold. Shadow and Bone season 2, which will be based on the second novel Siege and Storm, was officially greenlit in June 2021. The season just began filming this week, as confirmed in a social media post by cast member David Wurawa.

Now, Shadow and Bone season 2 has added four more cast members bringing characters from the books to life. Anna Leong Brophy will play Heartrender Tamar Kir-Bataar, Lewis Tan will play her twin Tolya Yul-Bataar, Patrick Gibson will play the mysterious privateer Nikolai Lantsov, and Jack Wolfe will play Wylan Hendriks, another character pulled from the follow-up Grishaverse duology Six of CrowsShadow and Bone has also bumped up cast members Danielle Galligan (Nina Zenik), Daisy Head (Genya Safin), and Calahan Skogman (Matthias Helvar) to series regular for the new season.

Shadow and Bone New Cast Members Season 2

Leong Brophy is a British actress and comedian who has appeared on the series EastEnders and Last Tango in Halifax as well as hosting the podcast Still Legit. Her soon-to-be twin Tan is perhaps best known for briefly playing Shatterstar in Deadpool 2, but he has also held roles in major projects like Into the Badlands and the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, which premiered in theaters and on HBO Max in April. Gibson is an Irish actor and Netflix stalwart, having previously appeared on sci-fi series The OA. This will also be Jack Wolfe's second Netflix credit, after appearing as Nadbor in The Witcher season 1.

Shadow and Bone was both a commercial and critical success for Netflix, so hopefully season 2 can continue the show's hot streak. Although the series seems to be using the Six of Crows books to augment material from the main series, there are still 8 other novels to be adapted over the course of the series. Hopefully, the show will continue to grow and be allowed to ultimately cover the entire breadth of the source material.
