Although Netflix’s new dating show, Sexy Beasts, has viewers calling it the stuff of nightmares, no one can deny that it’s a wild experiment. The show seeks to determine if individuals can put appearance aside and find love based on personality alone...with the help of deeply unsettling makeup and prosthetics. Though there were several couples to emerge from the show, fans have wondered if the experiment worked and are curious about whether any of the pairs have actually stayed together.
The inaugural season featured six couples. Even though they got together without seeing each others’ faces, they all seemed pretty pleased at the end to see their partner's fully human form from head to toe. There were some incredible reactions from the singles who were shocked to see what their fellow castmates look like under all the makeup.
However, not all of the relationships the show spawned were built to last—and some didn’t even get off the ground. Social media sleuthing has revealed clues about salty cast members and possible romance. Like the cast members on the show, there’s more than meets the eye when it comes to these relationships.
Emma The Demon & Bennett The Mandril
This cast member’s demonic appearance shocked viewers at first, but when they saw Emma without the makeup, they were wowed by how gorgeous she is. It’s no surprise, given she’s a legit model. After several dates on the show, the New York glamazon eventually selected Bennett the Mandril to be her Sexy Beast, but it appears that’s about as far as things got. The pair don’t follow each other on Instagram, and Bennett has hinted at bad blood between the two of them. “There is SO MUCH that you don’t know about what happened after the cameras cut off,” he commented, adding, “I’m not really sure what I can and can’t say.” It’s safe to say that Emma and Bennett are not together, and it seems they never were.
James The Beaver & Alexis The Leopard
Although Sexy Beasts is supposed to be about dating based on personality, James the Beaver didn’t let that stop him from checking out the parts of his dates without makeup. As distracted as he was by the ladies’ bodies, he claimed to have found a spark with singer and law student Alexis. However, that spark doesn’t seem to have followed them off-screen. Though the two follow each other on Instagram, it seems clear from Alexis’ feed that she’s currently dating someone else. In a recent post, Alexis described her time on the show as a “fun, unique experience,” but James has made no mention of Sexy Beasts on Instagram. Perhaps he’s a little salty that things didn’t work out with the Leopard.
Kariselle The Panda & Tyler The Alien
The wildly outgoing “party motivator” may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but Kariselle and Tyler the Alien appeared to have real chemistry. They may also be one of the few Sexy Beasts couples to attempt an off-screen relationship. In a lengthy Instagram post, Kariselle described what happened after the show. “We tried our best, and really gave it what we could given the circumstances,” she said, but revealed that they’re no longer together romantically. “We’ve stayed in touch constantly since filming and speak almost daily,” she said. “Tyler, If I had to do it all over again, I’d pick you every time. I love you my sexy beast and I’m always going to be your biggest fan.”
Ibrahim The Wolf & Gabi The Owl
Chronically single Ibrahim went on the show looking for a real connection and he thought he found one in veterinary student Gabi the Owl. There was chemistry between the two on their dates, and both of them were definitely attracted to each other after the makeup came off. However, it seems their romance never truly blossomed. On Instagram, Gabi said of her experience, “It was a hoot.” But based on photos she posted of herself with another guy, it appears she has moved on.
Nina The Dolphin & Mick The Rhino
Nina the Dolphin had some of the most nightmare-inducing makeup on the show, but there was a total sweetheart underneath. On the show, she dated a dinosaur, a scarecrow, and a rhinoceros. Ultimately, she chose Mick the Rhino to be her Sexy Beast. Nina and Mick have been tight-lipped about their post-show relationship status, though they follow each other on Instagram. Recently, Nina shared some clips of her and Mick exploring London together right after filming the show, so it seems they dated for a short while at least. Nina and Mick also live just a few hours away from each other, so if any of the couples from the show were to make it, these two probably have the best shot.
Kelechi The Rooster & Martha The Reindeer
Kelechi, a pharmacist-in-training from Tennessee had truly scary makeup that some fans compared to a sleep paralysis demon. However, underneath the prosthetics was a gorgeous man looking for a real connection. He saw sparks with UK sales executive Martha and chose her at the end of his episode. The pair currently follow each other on Instagram and regularly like each others’ posts. Kelechi and Martha appear to be on good terms, and the former rooster even tagged Martha in his recent post talking about his experience on the show. However, with the two of them living so far apart, it seems a real relationship would be a major stretch.
Overall, it doesn’t appear that Sexy Beasts is particularly good at setting up quality matches, as most of the season 1 “couples” have already crashed and burned. Still, there were some who gave it the old college try, and even one couple who could still be together, so it wasn’t a total loss. Donning nightmarish makeup before a series of blind dates may not be the best method for finding love, but perhaps season 2 will result in a few more successful relationships.
