Sex Education season 4 will come with some major changes, so here are 10 predictions for the main character’s fates. Sex Education has been a roaring success on Netflix as it followed the awkward sexual explorations of British high school students. The end of Sex Education season 3 saw some drastic changes as Moordale closed for good and Maeve accepted a writing course in America.

These changes mean Sex Education season 4 is going to be completely different from previous seasons, and quite difficult to predict. Plus, the success of Sex Education has seen its ensemble cast skyrocket to success. Ncuti Gatwa will become the 15th Doctor in season 14 of Doctor Who, Emma Mackey and Connor Swindells will star alongside Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Barbie movie, and Simone Ashley led the cast of Bridgerton as Kate Sharma in its second season. With all these changes, the future of Sex Education season 4's main cast may look very different.

10 Otis

Sex Education season 3 ended with Otis and Maeve finally being able to confess their feelings for one another. However, Maeve left for America leaving Otis on his own. Season 4 promo pictures show Otis and Ruby together, who previously had a relationship that failed due to Otis’ secret feelings for Maeve. With Maeve gone, and these feelings shared, Otis’ journey in season 4 could reunite him with Ruby as he would finally be able to fully commit to her. Otis has not yet been in a relationship without any doubts so season 4 could see him take that next step, with Ruby.

9 Maeve

Netflix; Season 4; Emma Mackey

Maeve’s departure to America is a great development for her character but means she will be featured much less in Sex Education season 4. Pictures have shown Maeve with Dan Levy’s new character, presumably her tutor, which suggests a storyline between the two. Maeve will be grappling with her feelings for Otis and there will likely be doubt in her mind between choosing her own studies over the boy she loves. Being on the other side of the world, Maeve will probably have to deal with loneliness as she had just reconnected with her sister too. Maeve’s story will most likely focus on having to put these feelings aside to excel.

8 Eric

Ncuti Gatwa as Eric wearing a bandana in Sex Education

Eric’s Sex Education season 3 journey was tumultuous as he grappled with feeling restricted in his relationship, cheating on Adam in Nigeria, and the revelation that he wants to “fly” now he is open about his sexuality. Eric spent a long time wanting a relationship only to realize he was not fully letting himself be free, so his journey in Sex Education season 4 will focus on this. With Moordale shut, Eric has the chance to meet new people who have similar mindsets. No longer restricted by the judgments of those who already know him, Eric will be able to explore his identity more to be truly happy with himself.

7 Adam

Connor Swindells as Adam Groff With Dog Netflix Sex Education

Adam’s relationship with Eric allowed him to be more comfortable with his sexuality in Sex Education season 3, but it was their break-up that made Adam confident enough to come out to his mom. After their break-up, Adam gains recognition at a dog competition, something he feels he is good at, so his season 4 journey is likely to be more personal. Adam and his mom already showed a better relationship once he came out to her, so Sex Education season 4 could focus on Adam understanding himself better, advancing his skills through dog training, and potentially having a relationship with Rahim, with whom he flirted in Sex Education season 3.

6 Dr. Jean

Jean and Jakob outside the hospital looking surprised in Sex Education

Dr. Jean gave birth to a baby girl at the end of Sex Education season 3 after a rocky labor. Jean and Jakub’s relationship had ended and was focused on co-parenting which will continue in season 4. Sex Education season 4 will likely bring challenges as Jean and Jakub try to work together with such different mindsets, and they will probably grapple with their old feelings too. The birth of their baby girl will force Jean to deal with her commitment issues, especially as Jakub is unlikely to leave like Otis’ dad, and Jean will have to understand more about herself.

5 Aimee

Aimee Lou Wood in Sex Education season 4

Aimee’s trauma from sexual assault affected her relationship with Steve in Sex Education season 3 and eventually led to their breakup. Aimee has rarely been single in Sex Education but her realization that she needs to be on her own will be a massive development point in season 4. It is likely Aimee will revisit the trauma of her sexual assault as she tries to take power over it. With Maeve in America, Aimee will probably be quite lonely, but this could be an important aspect of her season 4 arc. Aimee should ideally stay single throughout season 4 and find true happiness in singledom.

4 Ruby

Ruby at the bowling alley with Eric and Adam in Sex Education

A lot more was revealed about Ruby in Sex Education season 3 as her relationship with Otis showed her softer side, as well as her humble background which she is insecure about. Ruby and Otis did not work out, and she appeared heartbroken seeing him kiss Maeve, so these hurt feelings are likely to continue into season 4. Ruby was in love with Otis, and their promo picture for Sex Education season 4 hints their relationship will be revisited. Ruby’s season 4 journey should see her have a more balanced, open relationship with Otis but mainly focus on her insecurities and being proud of where she comes from.

3 Jackson

Jackson in Sex Education

Jackson’s struggle with his identity was prevalent in Sex Education season 3 as he stopped swimming and lost his head boy position. His relationship with Cal was also a struggle as Cal argued that Jackson still views them as a girl and not non-binary. Jackson’s Sex Education season 4 journey will likely be focused on finding who he is, which he has tried to do previously, and being open about it. His relationship with his moms has already improved, so this support should help him find his passion. At a new school, Jackson is likely to end up in another relationship which will probably teach him more about himself too.

2 Viv

An image of Viv standing by a stream in Sex Education

Viv was quite reserved in Sex Education season 3 until her friendship with Jackson and Cal showed her she should not always stick to the rules. Viv’s relationship with her boyfriend Eugene also opened up her mind as he was quite into medieval fantasies. Viv’s Sex Education season 4 journey will likely focus on her physical relationship with Eugene as she develops her sexual relationship with him and steps out of her comfort zone. Plus, this could mean being separate from Jackson and Cal, so Viv may struggle with balancing these with her exciting new relationship.

1 Cal

Cal in their school uniform standing under stage lights in Sex Education Season 3

Cal was a newly introduced character in Sex Education season 3 but proved to be one of the most confident in their identity. Cal clashed with headteacher Hope due to Hope’s strict rules and exclusion of non-binary students from her school. Cal struggled to fit in because of their identity and that is likely to continue at the new school. Cal’s relationship with Jackson did not work so season 4 could include a relationship for Cal with a more open-minded person which could put a strain on Cal and Jackson’s friendship. Sex Education season 4 will hopefully show more about Cal’s personal life and history and use this in their story.
