A new Sex Education season 3 behind-the-scenes video reveals how Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve's (Emma Mackey) kiss in the rain was filmed. The British coming-of-age series is officially back with all nine episodes now available to stream on Netflix. Amid all the changes happening in Moordale Secondary School, arguably still the biggest plot line coming into the fresh year revolves around the complicated relationship between its main couple.
This is especially true after Sex Education season 2 finale's cliffhanger. For context, after spending much of the year separated from each other and minding their own businesses, Otis and Maeve finally admit their real feelings to each other — only on separate occasions leading to further complications. In the end and on the heels of his break-up with Ola (Patricia Allison), Otis took it upon himself to properly try with Maeve; he sent her a voice message, confessing his long crush on her. However, her new neighbor, Isaac (George Robinson) deleted the message before she could check it. As Otis and Maeve reunite for the new term, audiences have been looking forward to a potential resolution.
Fortunately, Sex Education season 3 delivers on its long promise that Otis and Maeve are ultimately made for each other. In a pivotal scene, the pair finally embraces their mutual attraction and share a kiss in the rain. Their series co-star Aimee Lou Wood, who plays Aimee, shared the behind-the-scenes video of Butterfield and Mackey filming the romantic moment, alongside a string of other set images from their time working on the project's latest year. This isn't actually the first time that Otis and Maeve shared a kiss. In an earlier episode of Sex Education season 3, they were stuck in a gas station during the school trip to France. This gave them an ample amount of time to be alone together for the first time to bring up the lost voice mail. However, since Maeve was still sort of seeing Isaac at that point, coupled with the unexpected return of their bus, they couldn't really come up with a way to move forward together. It's then quite a while before they're given the chance to revisit the conversation.
Otis and Maeve's kiss scene in the rain is arguably one of the most romantic moments in Sex Education season 3, particularly since it took a long time before the show finally delivered on their love affair. Unluckily, they needed to pause their relationship once again as Maeve chose to partake in the U.S. study grant after her mom suddenly came up with enough money to send her. The good thing is, at least the new year didn't end in another horrible cliffhanger as its predecessor did.
