Sex Education season 2 once again left Otis (Asa Butterfield) and Maeve's (Emma Mackey) romance in limbo, which could be frustrating for some fans, but there's actually an easy way out of this. The pair were operating on their own when Sex Education debuted, but came together to run an underground sex therapy business. Maeve handled the business side of things, while Otis did the counseling. As they worked together, they also started to develop feelings for each other. However, external factors kept them apart, with Otis officially getting together with Ola (Patricia Allison) in the season 1 finale.

Sex Education season 2 expanded its story, with focus on other characters other than Otis and Maeve. Frankly, this made Sex Education much more well-rounded with a string of supporting characters having their own arcs. It also allowed the show to tackle more sensitive subject, making it more appealing to a broader audience. In the end, however, its core narrative is still about Otis and Maeve and their will-they/won't-they dynamic.

The final moments of Sex Education season 2 see Otis seek out Maeve to finally straight the record about their relationship. This came on the heels of his bold voice message professing his love for her. However, in the classic case of bad timing, he arrives at her caravan shortly after she left. Instead of waiting for her, Otis asked Isaac (George Robinson) to tell Maeve that he dropped by and emphasized to check her voice messages. Isaac assured Otis that his message will reach Maeve, but in a surprising plot twist, he went behind both of their backs, listened to the said message and unceremoniously deleted it right after. Sex Education season 2 ended with a shot of both Otis and Maeve smiling but walking in opposite directions.

Maeve-Otis-Sex Education Season 2

For fans of Sex Education rooting for Otis and Maeve, seeing season 2 ending a similar way to season 1 and knowing they have to wait at least a year before any resolution is understandably infuriating. Depending on how the show's creatives want to follow where they left the pair, there might not even be a resolution in the foreseeable future seeing that this romantic trope has been   successfully executed in other TV shows and movies. However, if Netflix wants to give viewers the satisfaction of finally seeing them together, there's a quick and painless way to do that - have Otis ask Maeve about the voice message, with him assuming that Isaac stayed true to his words.

They live in the same neighborhood and go to the same isolated school, there's a high chance that they'll bump into each other one way or another. Once Otis realizes that she doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, and Maeve learns that there's something she's unaware of, they can both get to the bottom of this. From there, they can decide on their own whether or not they want to act on their mutual attraction and try being a couple.

Of course, there's a strong possibility that Sex Education would want to draw out this situation. If anything, their alternate ending scene is proof that they're leaning towards the frustrating romantic dynamic between Otis and Maeve. However, considering the setting of the show, it will be difficult to dance around the issue in a believable way. If anything, Sex Education season 3 should just tackle this looming issue head on, and then focus on the ramifications of Isaac's betrayal, as well as Otis and Maeve's decision regarding their relationship.
