Netflix's Sex Education is one of the most charming and entertaining new shows currently streaming. The series explores the many insecurities and questions young people have about sex while struggling with the awkward world of high school. The story focuses on Otis and Maeve, two outcasts who start a sex advice business at their school.

The relationship between Maeve and Otis is really the heart of the show. Though they initially seem like very different people, they eventually grow close and develop feelings for each other. However, are they truly meant to be together or is romance out of the question? Here are some reasons Maeve and Otis should be together and some they should not.

Should Be Together: They're Great Partners

The thing that originally brings Maeve and Otis together is business. Maeve recognizes Otis' talent for dispensing useful relationships and sex-life advice. She sees the potential for money to be made with this skill and so their partnership forms.

However, the work they do together quickly becomes more than just a way to make cash. They realize that they are genuinely helping people in need. Maeve also proves herself to be as important to the business as Otis and it could not survive unless they were both involved.

Should Not Be Together: Otis And Ola

As with most television romances, other people eventually emerged to threaten the happiness Otis and Maeve could have with each other. After Otis finally admits to himself that Maeve would never like him, he meets Ola, a friendly girl whom he quickly falls for.

While it could be argued that Otis was using Ola as a rebound for getting over Maeve, he did honestly like her. That at least means that his undying affection for Maeve can be felt about another person as well, so maybe she's not the only one he could ever be with.

Should Be Together: Support System

Though Maeve and Otis seem to be totally different people when they first meet, they are both outcasts in their school. Maeve comes from a poor background and is looked down upon as being trashy. Otis is seen by his peers as an awkward nerd who doesn't fit in with the popular crowd.

While they each have solid friends, no one gives them the support they need like each other. They feel comfortable in sharing fears and problems while knowing what to say to make the other feel better.

Should Not Be Together: Maeve And Jackson

Before even meeting Otis, Maeve was romantically involved with the school's star athlete, Jackson. Once again, Jackson was presented as an obstacle in the path of Maeve and Otis coming together. But it's hard to deny that Maeve and Jackson made for a great couple.

They cared a lot about each other and they also helped each other face their own insecurities. Jackson was part of the popular crowd, but he's also a caring and thoughtful person who made Maeve happy.

Should Be Together: They Improve Each Other

Neither Otis nor Maeve are perfect people, but they do help each other move in the right direction. Along with being kind and generous, they are also not afraid to call each other out for their mistakes and show the other the error of their ways.

Even when they were fighting, their impact on each other did not diminish. They helped improve each other, so when they face problems in their life, they can take the lessons they taught one another and find the solution.

Should Not Be Together: Too Much Judgement

When these two are together, they seem like an ideal pair, but they've also fought a lot throughout the series. While fighting does not necessarily mean they should end their relationship, their arguments are often petty and their grudges unnecessary.

They seem to hold each other up on pedestals as their respective soulmates. So when they make mistakes or anger each other, they judge the other more harshly than they would with anyone else. and it makes it hard to get past their differences.

Should Be Together: Will-They-Won't-They Needs To End

The relationship between Otis and Maeve is not a one-of-a-kind thing on television, although the show does pull it off quite effectively. The will-they-won't-they relationship is similar to Sam and Diane on Cheers and countless shows that followed. It adds a lot of tension and thrills to a show when there is a couple we all want to see get together who just can't quite seem to work it out.

However, we've now had two full seasons of this and if it goes on much longer, the show could become tiresome. Season 3 needs to bring the will-they-won't-they storyline to an end, and seeing them get together feels like the right way to move forward.

The trouble with the will-they-won't-they relationships is that some shows can write themselves into a corner with such a couple. We might cheer for them to get together, but that doesn't always mean it feels right when they finally do.

We've seen countless shows in which the fun is sucked out of the relationships as soon as the characters get together. Sex Education is a clever show, so we have faith they could pull it off. But there is that possibility that things get much less interesting when Otis and Maeve become a couple.

Should Be Together: They Love Each Other

Regardless of the other people they have been with and the fights they have gotten into, the simple fact is that Maeve and Otis love each other. It took each of them a while to come to that conclusion, but that's the reality of their relationship.

They have more hurdles to overcome but there's no denying their feelings. They will find happiness together when they finally are able to connect without all these other elements getting in the way.

Should Not Be Together: They're Better As Friends

The love Maeve and Otis have for each other is undeniable, but that doesn't mean it's romantic love. They care for each other, they help each other with their problems, they are solid support systems, but that could just mean that they are perfect friends.

This might actually be an interesting direction for the show to take. Sex Education has always excelled in presenting truthful high school relationships. The relationship between Maeve and Otis could explore the confusion between teenage girls and boys who form a deep connection but mistake friendship for romance.
