The first official trailer for And Just Like That has premiered. This 10-episode series will be the latest chapter in the sprawling Sex and the City universe. Sex and the City, which is the story of the travails of four women chasing love and lust in New York City, is based on the Candace Bushnell book of the same name. The series originally premiered on HBO in 1998 and ran for six seasons. The show, which combined snarky comedy with a realistic depiction of the love lives of women in their 30's, was a smash success, sending its stars (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davis, Cynthia Nixon, and Kim Cattrall) into the stratosphere. After the series ended, it was followed by two films in 2008 and 2010, respectively.

And Just Like That, which began filming this June in New York, is set to continue the story more than a decade later. Although Kim Cattrall will not be returning as her iconic character Samantha Jones, the rest of the core group - Parker's Carrie Bradshaw, Davis' Charlotte York Goldenblatt, and Nixon's Miranda Hobbes, are still taking part. It is currently unknown how the show will explain Samantha's absence, but the actress has cited off-screen issues as her reason for leaving the show.

Today, HBO Max dropped the first full-length trailer for And Just Like That, revealing plenty about the new series. In addition to showing the passage of time by having columnist Carrie Bradshaw participating in a podcast and catching up with some returning characters like Chris Noth's Mr. Big and the recently departed Willie Garson's Stanford Blatch, the trailer also revealed the first look at the new fourth member of the group. This is the character Lisa Todd Wexley, as played by Empire's Nicole Ari Parker. Although no character details have yet emerged, this is the first time she's been shown officially interacting with the group. HBO Max also revealed the show's official release date of December 9, 2021. Check out the trailer below:

And Just Like That will also star Sarita Choudhury, Karen Pittman, Sara Ramirez, and Isaac Cole Powell with Brenda Vaccaro, Ivan Hernandez, Christopher Jackson, and LeRoy McClain recurring. Other original Sex and the City characters that will be returning are Mario Cantone as Stanford's husband Anthony Marentino, David Eigenberg as Miranda's husband Steve Brady, and Evan Handler as Charlotte's husband Harry Goldenblatt. None of these returning cast members, including the aforementioned Noth and Garson, have been set for a specified number of episodes, so this series could still take the rumored path of the canceled Sex and the City 3 and have Mr. Big pass away, leaving Carrie single yet again. This could potentially explain the new love interest Sarah Jessica Parker was spotted with in set photos.

The And Just Like That trailer still hasn't revealed much about the plot of the long-awaited Sex and the City reboot. However, it does prove that the show has managed to capture the tone of the original series. The luxurious fashions and focus on female friendship are front and center here, promising that the new show still knows how to satisfy its core audience.
