Sex and the City is one of those shows that has tons of characters coming in and out of the series. Because the HBO classic is all about dating and relationships, Carrie, Miranda, Samantha, and Charlotte find themselves exploring an array of different partners throughout the show. Since Sex and the City is also heavily focused on the work lives of the women, co-workers and boss' come in and out of the series like musical chairs.
Due to the fact that these women are constantly out and about in New York City, they end up meeting tons of different people who are sometimes the worst. But who are the most hated supporting characters of all on SATC? Keep reading to find out!
BUNNY MACDOUGAL
Bunny Macdougal was a one-dimensional WASP of a character who solely existed to make Charlotte's life miserable. Her only personality trait seemed to be "snooty," and she was constantly wagging her finger at her future daughter in law while sporting pink Chanel suits. While Frances Sternhagen did a terrific job portraying the evil stepmother, we couldn't help but cringe every time her character stepped on the screen because she was so convincingly uptight and demanding. She acted as though she wanted the best for her son, but it seemed as though there was a strange Norman Bates sort of situation going on with Trey and his mother, where no woman could ever come between them.
RICHARD WRIGHT
If Richard Wright had suggested an open-relationship with Sam and she agreed to it, things would be different. But he didn't. He expected monogamy and loyalty from Samantha, yet this didn't mean he couldn't have fun on the side with a plethora of women. He consistently cheated on one of our favorite characters on the show, and he seemed to have absolutely no remorse when he'd do it.
It also seemed pretty apparent that he had no plans of telling Samantha about his outside encounters in the bedroom, which stresses us out because it takes a lot for Sam to commit to someone. No one does this to Samantha Jones while thinking they can get away with it!
ALEXANDER LEMLEY
Even the most dedicated Sex and the City fans might be scratching their heads trying to remember who Alexander Lemley is. He was the man who Charlotte dated in the episode "Are We Sluts?" who kept calling her degrading names in bed. Refresh your memory? It was cringe-worthy to witness, especially with Charlotte who prefers making love over anything obscene like this. Plus, it was their first time together. He seemed like such a gentleman to Charlotte during their dates, but everything changed when they got to his apartment. Kristin Davis even stated in an interview with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live that filming the scene with this character was her least favorite to shoot on the show.
JULIAN FISCHER
Julian Fischer was Carrie's editor at Vogue. At first, he seemed like a totally awesome and trust-worthy guy. While Enid Mead would dictate Carrie and be extremely critical towards her work, Julian was there to make Ms. Bradshaw feel comfortable- until the incident. While Carrie and Julian were ogling at Vogue's closet and admiring all of the clothing, Julian stripped to his underwear in front of her, changing the whole nature of their relationship. In 2020, this kind of behavior would never be acceptable in the workplace with a superior and their employee, and it would be considered a #MeToo moment.
ENID MEAD
Although at the end of the day, Enid Mead had some mildly redeeming qualities, for the most part, she just seemed unnecessarily cold towards Carrie. From the very beginning, viewers found it difficult to like this woman who might as well be a poor man's Miranda Priestly. While she is a good businesswoman and we can't blame her for being strict, (she is working for Vogue after all), when Carrie and Enid have lunch together she is unwilling to open up to Carrie at all. It's one thing to be cold as a boss but it's another to be unnecessarily rude in social situations that have nothing to do with work. Over time though, she does open up a little bit and we can't help but appreciate this move.
TREY MACDOUGAL
Like Enid, Trey Macdougal had some redemption which was especially evident towards the end of his divorce with Charlotte. Yet while he was married to her, he was a total jerk who was unwilling to put in the effort in order to make his wife happy.
He suffered from a complex and thus could not please Charlotte or make her feel loved. Although Charlotte originally saw him as her dream man, he was the kind of guy who was only good on paper. Harry, on the other hand, was perfect for her.
TOM "BIG BONED"
The storyline with Miranda's weight watcher's lover, Tom, was the ultimate cringe-fest. Because of "Big Boned" Tom, we can never eat a glazed donut again. These two met while getting weighed at their weight loss program, and Miranda found herself attracted to Tom's sense of humor. She agreed to go on a date with him, and he revealed to Miranda that the reason he put on so much weight was because of his ex.
Whenever his ex would criticize him, he'd turn to food for comfort. This made Miranda feel like she couldn't communicate with him because she was worried he would feel criticized and thus ruin his weight-watchers diet. When Miranda tried to talk to him gently about a problem in the bedroom, he ended up feeling criticized, and of course, turned to food. He acted like a child and Tom's behavior was just aggravating to us in every way.
NINA KATZ
Whenever Nina Katz would appear on our screens, we'd feel our blood actually begin to boil. Nadia Dajani who portrayed her was so convincing as the rude SNL producer as well as Aidan's girlfriend. Nina told Carrie that she dated Aidan right after their fallout. She was incredibly judgemental and rude towards Carrie to the point where it ticked us off as much as it ticked off Carrie. Her personality was simply nasty and we're glad we didn't have to see more of her character.
NED
Ned was a terrible person who only appeared in one episode, and we are perfectly content with that. He played one of Charlotte's lovers who she met at a funeral. In Ned's eyes, a cemetery was the ultimate place to pick up chicks. We'd recommend meeting people at a bar, but that's just us. Ned would use his dead wife as a ruse to get women to jump into bed with him. How scummy could a person possibly get? Thank you, next.
JACK BERGER
And last but not least, we had to put Jack Berger on this list for worst supporting characters. Decades later, we are still not over how poorly he treated Carrie as well as women in general. At first, he was a genuinely promising guy who we rooted for as we looked forward to seeing the evolution of his relationship with Carrie.
Yet as we got to know him better, we realized how easy it was for him to feel emasculated and he responded to this feeling by lashing out on women. Now whenever we see a scrunchie we are instantly reminded of Berger, and what a jerk he is.
