When first reading the script for the Severance season 1 finale, star Tramell Tillman was furious at the cliffhanger ending. He's not the only one, as fans of the show (including Stephen King) were gripped by the shocking conclusion to Apple TV's dystopian sci-fi series. Tillman plays Seth Milchick on the show, a methodical manager on Lumon's Severed floor who oversees his employees with a smile that barely hides his imposing nature.

The finale saw Milchick in a race to stop Innie Dylan as he helped his fellow ragtag group of employees in Macrodata Refinement commandeer Lumon's overtime contingency plan, barely able to hold onto the two switches to keep the process going. This led to a series of revelations for the group's Innies. John Turturro's Irving finds out that his office lover Burt is married, and that Irving keeps detailed tabs on his fellow coworkers, insinuating he might be a mole for Lumon. Britt Lower's Helly learned that she's actually Helena Eagan, related to the company's founder Keir Eagan, and she got Severed as a PR move for the company. Finally, Adam Scott's Mark discovered that his Outie's wife wasn't dead after all, but hidden by Lumon, solely kept as an Innie under the name Ms. Casey.

Although Milchick is working at cross purposes against the heroes of the show, that doesn't seem to stop Tillman from rooting for them. He opened up in an interview with Variety about how much he was invested in the story and wanted to know what happens next. When the ending came about and he realized that he would have to wait to find out what he happened, he was "absolutely floored." His full quote is below:

"I was absolutely engrossed in it and I was enraged. You know, um, I remember reading on my laptop and seeing that I only had a couple pages left, and I said wait a minute, they're not going to end the finale like this, this is not how it's going to go down, and then it ends the way it does, with me tackling, and Adam like screaming to the top of his lungs, and I was like no no no no no. I was absolutely floored."

The season finale opens a can of worms as to what Severance season 2 could hold. There's a lot yet to be explored, especially with Milchick, who remains more of an enigma than the other characters. He seems to have an encyclopedic understanding of the codes and protocols of Lumon, which he follows and upholds with the utmost severity. It remains to be seen whether his strong allegiance to the company is masking an ulterior motive, or whether he simply wants to climb the company ladder into a position of greater power. It has also been theorized that Milchick isn't actually Severed, but little to nothing is known of his Outie life, so it's difficult to guess one way or another.

As exciting as the season 1 finale was, it will be even more exciting to see how the consequences of the revelations unfold. What greater repercussions will the Macrodata Refiners face for their revolt beyond time in the mentally draining Break Room? How will Helly navigate work with the knowledge that, as a company legacy, she has power over her superiors, but effectively no way to escape her situation? Will Outie Mark's sister Devon know he's referring to his wife when he screamed, "She's alive"? In addition to finding out what other mysteries the sci-fi show has for audiences, hopefully, more will be unearthed about the mysterious Milchick, giving him a clearer story arc as Severance twists its way through its eventual season 2.
