Pineapple Express star Seth Rogen says that a cop tried to convince him to get high with him while he was shooting a movie in New Mexico. The Canadian comic is known for his love of marijuana, making it a central plot point of the 2008 film, which co-starred his long-time friends and collaborators James Franco and Danny McBride. Not only is he an advocate of the plant, he actually is part owner of a legal marijuana company in Canada, where the plant was legalized in 2018.

Pineapple Express isn't the only movie in which Rogen has used the plant, but it is the most well-known, as the title and plot revolve around a strain of marijuana called Pineapple Express, that a group of criminals, as well as a crooked cop, want to maintain control of. Rogen also spent a lot of time getting high in the movie This Is The End, in which he, Franco, McBride, and a number of their other frequent co-stars play exaggerated versions of themselves trying to navigate the apocalypse. As a result, Rogen has a reputation as a regular smoker of marijuana.

Rogen, speaking on Anna Faris' podcast Unqualified, has revealed that a cop tried to convince him to get high together while he was working on a shoot in New Mexico. Rogen says the cop showed him some weed plants and produced a joint in front of him. He adds that while he briefly considered taking the cop up on his offer as it would make for a cool story, he ultimately turned him down as he realized the chance of him being arrested was pretty high. Rogen figured it might have been a "simple sting operation," saying that if he had been arrested for it, he would have been the "dumbest" person on the planet ever to be locked up. You can read the full story below.

I was shooting in a very small town ... on the outskirts of New Mexico, and a cop came up to me, showed me a picture of a bunch of weed plants and was like "I'm growing these in my basement," produced a joint, and was like "Do you wanna smoke this joint with me?" It was one of those internal monologues where I was like: on one hand the story of smoking weed with a cop I guess is one maybe I would like to have. On the other hand is this the most simple sting operation in history and I'm about to be the dumbest motherf__ker to ever get arrested on the planet? And so I said no.

Rogen was responding to a speculative question from Faris about whether he would ever take up an offer from a police officer to get high with him. Ironically, Rogen then revealed that he knows the answer definitively, as he'd been faced with the situation described above. Rogen added that he's sure it's happened to him many times besides that one, but the incident in New Mexico was the most blatant example. He doesn't mention what he was shooting, but given that Preacher, which Rogen co-created, was shot in the state, it's likely that's when it happened.

It's no surprise that the Canadian star, whose most recent starring role is in An American Pickle, which was released on HBO Max last week to mixed reviews, has been approached by several police officers about his use of marijuana. What's surprising is that he's had his wits about him to turn them down and not risk getting arrested. Of course, given Seth Rogen's high profile and celebrity status, he's likely cautious about where he indulges, rather than just being too blatant about it, especially in the USA, where the drug is still outlawed by federal law.
