After losing her job in the insurance industry, Red (Boylan) finds the courage to pursue a lifelong dream of being the world's best Dolly Parton impersonator. Her act attracts the right attention, and soon she's on her way to the heights of her chosen art as she is in the top tier of copycat acts. With the help of a booking agent (Cannavale) and an Elvis impersonator (Byrne), she becomes the on and off-stage partner of a Kenny Rogers copycat (Webber). On her path, Red will eventually discover that the best way to be truly happy in life is being the best version of yourself. What To Expect From Seriously Red
In this exclusive first look presented by Screen Rant, Red is just about to take the stage as Dolly in a big performance. She's visibly nervous, with hands shaking, and complaining about an upset stomach after a recent flight. A quick trip to the toilet ends in disaster as her highly flammable wig meets a badly placed candle, and goes up in flames. Red is able to douse the flames, but she's forced to go on stage looking disheveled and shaken as her on-stage partner, the Kenny Rogers impersonator, has already begun their duet.
In the trailer for the film, the audience meets Red as her life appears to be falling apart. She's lost her job and is a laughingstock. But a chance meeting sets her on a path to a new life. As a Dolly Parton impersonator, she begins to find the joy and meaning that was previously missing. Seriously Red takes its audience on a greatest hits tour of some of Dolly Parton's greatest hits and most flamboyant outfits in this comedy that celebrates individuality and acceptance.
Seriously Red joins an exciting and varied 2023 slate from Lionsgate. Recent releases include Plane starring Gerard Butler and Mike Colter in an action-adventure about a plane that crash lands on an island in the Philippines, or the thriller Alice, Darling starring Anna Kendrick as a woman being psychologically manipulated by her boyfriend. Later this year they'll release two action tent poles with the latest installment in the John Wick franchise, and the prequel to The Hunger Games, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
Seriously Red will be released by Lionsgate in the US on February 10, both in select theaters and On Demand.
