A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 Cast: Neil Patrick Harris And The Rest Of The Main Actors Are Returning

Naturally, A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 will bring back many familiar faces. Neil Patrick Harris will reprise his role of Count Olaf, still on a mission to get his hands on the Baudelaire's fortunes, played again by Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, and Presley Smith as Violet, Klaus, and Sunny, respectively. K. Todd Freeman will obviously be popping up as the well-meaning-yet-hapless lawyer with an ever-present cough, Arthur Poe, and it seems likely that Olaf's henchmen and women will be back too; Usman Ally, Matty Cardarople, Jacqueline and Joyce Robbins, and John DeSantis. And, finally, Patrick Warburton will be on hand to deliver his dour commentary as Lemony Snicket.

Several other previously seen characters are likely to return if Season 3 accurately follows the books, but we don't want to spoil them.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 Will Have Some Major New Cast Members

Season 3 will introduce new, and very pivotal, characters to the final chapters of the Baudelaire's story. In the final sequence of season 2, we saw Allison Williams arriving as Kit Snicket, the third Snicket sibling. Given how closely the show follows the original books, you can expect that Kit will feature fairly prominently in the final season.

Along with Kit, there's a bevy of new characters from the books who the Baudelares run into, including submarine captains, another set of triplets, and more. Expect moe casting to come.

rWe're also likely to meet Beatrice, the woman whom Lemony Snicket loved, and whom he assumes is now dead.

A Series of Unfortunate Events' Story so Far

A Series of Unfortunate Events started with the death of the Baudelaire parents. Their three orphan children, Violet, Klaus and Sunny, were left with an enormous fortune and no guardian. Count Olaf is determined to get his hands on their money one way or another, whether through marrying Violet, claiming guardianship of them all, or kidnapping Sunny, he'll stop at nothing. So far, the Baudelaires have been passed from one well-meaning but oblivious guardian to the next, each one falling for Olaf's tricks and disguises.

At the start of Season 2, the Baudelaire's found themselves at Prufrock Prep School, about to make their first real friends, fellow orphans Duncan and Isadora Quagmire. However, Count Olaf was on their trail again, and the Baudelaire's fell from one unfortunate event to the next, until they were ultimately framed for the fake murder of Count Olaf. Now they're fugitives, posing as a Carnival freak show act while Olaf continues to cause chaos.

Season 2 comes to an end with the orphans finally learning some truths, courtesy of undercover V.F.D. Agent Olivia Caliban, about their parents sad and untimely death, and V.F.D., the organization that connects all of their previous guardians, as well as Count Olaf. They discover that the headquarters are in the mountains nearby and so decide to head there for more answers. Their plans are once again thwarted by Count Olaf, who kidnaps Sunny and drives off with her to the mountains, leaving Klaus and Violet behind in a literal cliffhanger ending.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3 Is The Final Season

A Series of Unfortunate Events is a thirteen book series, with Season 2 seeing the story up to Book 9. As such it's long been expected Season 3 will be the end, later confirmed by Harris. While it will undoubtedly be sad to bid farewell to what has been a madcap and thoroughly enjoyable show, with three of the central cast (Weissman, Hynes, Smith) all growing up, and no more source material, it makes sense to end it here.

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 3's Story

A Series of Unfortunate Events Season 1 adapted books 1 through 4, while Season 2 tackled books 5-9. This means that Season 3 will finish up with books 10-13; The Slippery SlopeThe Grim GrottoThe Penultimate Peril and The End.
