Potential SPOILERS for Avengers: Endgame

Professional tennis player Serena Williams may have spoiled Captain America's (Chris Evans) fate in Avengers: Endgame, but she more than likely is misremembering the events of Avengers: Infinity War. The sequel to last year's Infinity War, the next Marvel Studios ensemble film will cap-off the Marvel Cinematic Universe's 22-film arc that it has been treading since 2008's Iron Man. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo with the script written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, Avengers 4 is hailed as the most-anticipated movies of 2019.

Not much is known regarding the plot specifics of Endgame. Marvel Studios is keeping details tightly under wraps with the movie's marketing supposedly only using footage from the first 20 minutes of the film. So far, a trailer and Super Bowl spot have been released, giving fans an idea of what the world looks like after Thanos' (Josh Brolin) snap wiped out half of life in the universe. They also provided the public with a look at the surviving heroes who are forced to continue living after their failed attempt to stop the Mad Titan. But with the promise of the core six Avengers reuniting after going their separate ways in 2015's Avengers: Age of Ultron, the team will concoct a game plan to restore peace and order in the galaxy and have Thanos pay for his sins.

While Marvel Studios have been doing a great job keeping the public guessing with what's going down in Endgame, Williams' recent social media post may have spoiled what lies ahead for the fan-favorite Steve Rogers. Taking a short video of Evans during the Academy Awards last Sunday, the decorated athlete can be heard saying that she's "devastated that he died in that movie, Avengers." Her friend quickly reminded Williams that it's a secret. The clip, which has since then been taken down, was posted on her official Instagram account (via CBR), but not before fan accounts were able to save a copy.

Cap was one of the characters that didn't get much screen time in Infinity War, albeit having some of the best moments in the movie. But Endgame is tipped to change that with the super soldier expected to be at the forefront of the upcoming battle against Thanos alongside Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). Considering that all three heroes are founding members of the MCU, not to mention that their contracts are finishing after the Phase 3 capper, their fates are among the most anticipated reveals in the movie. In both trailers released for Avengers 4 so far, Cap has been the main focal point, hinting that he'll assume leadership role in the Avengers' most important mission yet.

While Cap dying in Avengers: Endgame isn't exactly surprising (it's been repeatedly theorized), that's not to say that it won't be immensely sad when it finally comes to fruition. That said, Williams' recent social media post shouldn't be taken as a confirmation that it is indeed what's going to happen. If anything, the athlete may have just remembered the events of Infinity War differently especially considering that half of the MCU heroes disintegrated into dust in that film. If Marvel Studios had been very strict with Avengers 3's security to ensure that no spoilers leak before it came out, chances are that they doubled down on that for Avengers 4 since it's the final chapter of its 10-years worth of storytelling. So there's only a handful of people who actually knows what goes down in the Phase 3 capper, and most likely no advanced screenings before its premiere. Even if Captain America does die in the film, there'd be no way for Williams to know that right now.
