Mary Fitzgerald and Romain Bonnet, the Selling Sunset couple, were married nearly two years before their wedding on the Netflix series. The official marriage certificate and license shows that they tied the knot on March 9, 2018.

Throughout the first season of Netflix’s Selling Sunset, Mary and Romain had several serious discussions regarding their relationship. The couple worked through their problems and Romain proposed to Mary in the first season. Much of the second season was based around their wedding planning. In the final episode of the second season, the couple were married on October 12, 2019, in a luxurious Los Angeles house, offered by one of Mary’s clients. The public record proves that their marriage on the Selling Sunset show wasn’t real.

The original license and certificate of marriage was uncovered by TMZ, which shows that the couple was married on March 9, 2018, at the Ventura Courthouse. The official documents are available on public record in Ventura, California. “A deputy commissioner of civil marriages officiated the ceremony and a woman named Nicole Young was a witness," TMZ wrote.

The seasoned 40-year-old realtor has been married twice before she made things official with her 27-year-old beau. She married Romain merely four months after her second divorce was finalized. Selling Sunset filming began in July of 2018 which means that Mary and Romain were married for about four months prior to production.

Even though Mary and Romain were married when Selling Sunset filming began, they had some serious conversations on the show. The couple discussed having children together and their significant age gap. Romain’s response was immature at times; he sometimes appeared disinterested. All the while, the couple had already tied the knot.

It’s absolutely possible that Romain and Mary fast tracked their wedding before seriously considering their relationship. Given Mary’s marital history, it wouldn't be a surprise that she rushed into another marriage. Regardless, the Selling Sunset couple still lied about many aspects of their relationship on TV. Fans are beginning to question other events depicted on the reality show. After all, how can you trust that it’s all real when the first and second season was based on lies? If you’re starting to doubt the authenticity of the real estate show, you’re not alone. Over the next few weeks, more truths will likely be revealed about Netflix’s show, Selling Sunset
