Ahead of Selling Sunset season 5, Jason Oppenheim reveals he will always love ex-girlfriend Chrishell Stause. The co-stars broke up at the end of 2021, after five months together. Chrishell is the second Oppenheim Group employee Jason has dated. He was previously in a long-term relationship with Mary Fitzgerald.
When Chrishell and Jason announced their relationship last July, viewers of the Netflix series were completely shocked. Some theorized it was a publicity stunt, which the two repeatedly denied. However, they ended up splitting shortly after season 5 wrapped filming. Chrishell claimed the breakup was due to disagreements over starting a family. While season 4 barely even hinted at the romance, it was the focus of the teaser for season 5. Now that promo for the new season is underway, Jason is opening up about the relationship it will depict.
On Wednesday, April 20th, Jason talked to Us Weekly about his former relationship. He repeatedly said how tough it will be to watch it unfold on the new season, after all the teasers focused on Chrishell and Jason's relationship. The 45-year-old admitted he is "a bit raw still," even months after the breakup. "I love her still," Jason said of his soap star ex, as he emphasized, "I always will." He continued praising the 40-year-old, adding, "She's a great woman so there's just a lot of loss there." Though he said the breakup was the right decision for himself, the broker added, “It’s far more difficult than I thought and it’s gonna take a lot longer than I thought.” He went on to say, “It doesn’t help that I have to rewatch it and then go to a reunion and talk about it," referring to Selling Sunset season 5's Tan France-hosted reunion.
Even in his Instagram statement about the breakup, Jason repeatedly gushed over Chrishell. He wrote that she was the best girlfriend he ever had, and that their months-long romance was the greatest relationship of his life. Though some viewers took this as a slight to Mary, his other realtor ex was very supportive of the Chrishell romance. Recently, Mary even said she hopes he changes his mind about having kids. However, despite Jason's endless gushing and proclamations of eternal love, the famous twin also allegedly reverted to his bachelor lifestyle soon after the split. In February, it was reported that Jason kissed another woman, upsetting Chrishell, and that the two avoided each other at a Super Bowl party because of it.
Many viewers still believe the relationship was fake. The coincidental timing of their breakup right after season 5 wrapped didn't help the speculation. Regardless of its legitimacy, viewers will share the odd experience of watching Chrishell and Jason's romance blossom onscreen months after it ended. It will also, as Jason seemed aware of, likely be the focus of the show's first reunion special.
Selling Sunset season 5 will premiere on Netflix Friday, April 22. The previous four seasons are also available to watch on the streaming service.
