Emma Hernan cleared up the misconceptions surrounding her Raya activity with Ben Affleck after namedropping the actor on Selling Sunset. Ben Affleck denied Emma's claims that he reached out to her on the dating app. With the Oscar winner now back with Jennifer Lopez, Ben has no time to have his name linked to a Netflix reality star. But Emma is clarifying how long ago the flirty messages were sent.
Emma kicked off Selling Sunset season 5 with an update on her love life. The single luxury agent had been enjoying the online dating scene prior to meeting Micah McDonald. She has kept her romantic life at the forefront of her storylines. Season 4 saw Emma feuding with Christine Quinn due to their unfinished business over their mutual ex Peter Cornell. Emma accused Christine of lying about being engaged to Peter. Mary Fitzgerald also agreed with Emma. The accusations caused the quarrel to spill over into season 5.
Many were surprised by the new name Emma dropped at the start of Selling Sunset season 5. The Emma Leigh & Co. owner claimed to have been in contact with Academy Award-winning actor Ben after he reached out to her on Raya. But now that the scene has aired, Emma is clearing up how the editors created a "whole misconception" surrounding her ties to J. Lo's fiancé. “It was not recent. This was 2019," she explained on E! News' Daily Pop. Emma claimed their brief conversations were "the smallest, innocent little thing," and producers blew her mention of it "out of proportion," she said. With viewers not being able to "see the time frame," her brief encounter with Ben "seemed worse, and it was literally the smallest thing," Emma added. “End of story. We’re shutting that one down now,” she concluded.
Ben is busy rekindling his romance with J. Lo after a two-decade breakup. The pair recently announced their engagement 20 years after the Argo creator popped the question to the Marry Me star. With Emma bringing up Ben in Selling Sunset season 5, it made it seem like Ben might have been trying to pursue her recently. But Emma is adamant that their flirty messages were sent years before he rekindled his flame with the "Jenny From The Block" singer. Emma appeared excited to share the alleged encounter with the ladies at The Oppenheim Group. "He may or may not have been texting me,” she teased in the fifth episode. “He may or may not have asked to grab...coffee a few times," she gushed.
But after Selling Sunset season 5 premiered recently, reps for Ben denied Emma's claims, saying the actor hasn't been on Raya in years. It turns out they were right, and Emma has now cleared up the editing snafu. He was not trying to hook up with her after he reconciled with J. Lo. Emma likely didn't think her words would be misconstrued. But that's the beauty of editing on reality television. Emma's love life has taken center stage once again. But the last thing the Selling Sunset star wants is beef with J. Lo.
