Chrishell Stause and Jason Oppenheim shocked Selling Sunset fans in season 5 when they went public with their relationship, but many fans said the couple lacked chemistry on the show. Their romance caused quite the stir, as Jason is Chrishell's boss, and everyone at The Oppenheim Group wondered how that would affect the rest of the team. While Chrishell and Jason shared some cute moments on Selling Sunset, fans questioned whether it was more for the cameras than anything else.

Selling Sunset season 5 continued to bring the fashion, mega-mansions, theme parties, and drama that fans love. Christine Quinn was back to her villainous self and brought a sidekick, the new girl at The O Group, Chelsea Lazkani. The other agents piled on Christine at one of their many parties for everything she had done to them over the past four seasons, with Chelsea defending her new BFF, even starting some drama of her own. While Chelsea became enemies with Davina Potratz, Christine was in hot water over allegedly bribing one of Emma Hernan's clients not to work with Emma. While all of that was happening, Chrishell and Jason also decided to break up because she wanted kids, and he did not.

Even though Selling Sunset fans were excited to see how Chrishell and Jason got together as well as how their relationship looked in the office, many fans felt a lack of chemistry. Viewers thought their connection felt more forced at times, whether they were uncomfortable in front of cameras together or were not as serious as they claimed to be. Reddit user, r/jenh6, said, "I didn't see chemistry but I did see them as being good friends," while u/Glad_Ad7893 said, "And maybe they did have chemistry! But it just wasn't visible at all."

Selling Sunset fans were divided, as some viewers thought they seemed very comfortable around each other and preferred not to show as much PDA as most new couples would do especially reality stars. Their relationship didn't stir the pot on Selling Sunset, as many fans thought it would since the pair were able to do a good job of keeping their personal and professional lives separate.  R/CopyCat1993 said, "I feel like their relationship felt very authentic and healthy," while r/shopaholicsanonymous  wrote, "Chrishell looked so happy with Jason, so it made me really sad to hear they were broken up."

Some fans blamed the height difference for the couple's seeming lack of chemistry, saying that Chrishell always wearing stilettos with the rest of the women of The O Group may have caused some of the awkwardness. Some fans felt their relationship was one-sided, with r/itsjusmeqtpie saying, "it seemed like Jason was into Chrishell more than she is into him." Selling Sunset has been accused of faking storylines to cause drama, and the producers' influence on them could have something to do with their connection feeling forced. Whether or not their relationship was exaggerated for Selling Sunset, many fans are disappointed to see their break up and are ready to see how they go back to working together in season 6.
