Selena Gomez will star in Picturestart's Spiral, produced by Drake. Gomez is an American pop singer and actress who rose to stardom at a young age from her stint as Alex Russo on Disney Channel's Wizards Of Waverly Place. She starred in films such as Ramona and Beezus (2010), Monte Carlo (2011), and Spring Breakers (2012). Gomez has lent her voice to Dracula's daughter Mavis in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, and she served as an executive producer on The Broken Hearts Gallery (2020). Drake is a Canadian-born rapper, singer, actor, and producer who has released multiple hit albums.

Spiral will be directed by Petra Collins, with Drake and fellow Canadian musician, Future The Prince – a producer on HBO's Euphoria – set to executive produce. The film, written by Phoebe Fisher, will follow the life of a social media influencer, played by Gomez, whose body begins to decay as a result of her crippling addiction to her media platforms. According to Deadline, the psychological thriller has yet to acquire a streaming platform. Currently, its package is being shopped by Endeavor Content.

With Gomez slated as the film's star, Spiral is likely to garner a lot of attention as it is shopped around to different streaming platforms. Although Gomez got her start as a child star, this film is likely to highlight her dramatic side and show off her stellar acting skills. Gomez recently finished wrapping Hulu's Only Murders In The Building, where she starred alongside comedy legends, Martin Short and Steve Martin, proving her unmatchable and well-trained talent as an actress. Because both Gomez and Drake have such an established place in the pop music industry (Gomez released "De Una Vez" in January), Spiral will likely draw a wider net in audiences due to the star power the two of them bring to the table.
