Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has four endings - not all of them good - and there's a particular way to get each one if you're so inclined. With Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, FromSoftware managed to incorporate more than one ending, and depending on how players approach the final quests in the title, they may obtain a happy or unhappy ending. Our Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice endings guide will mark out the bad from the good, and tell you who you need to kill or what you need to do for the different conclusions.

Sekiro Endings Guide: Shura Ending

sekiro endings guide

The Shura ending in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the most straightforward in terms of what you need to have done. However, netting this ending is also going to impact on your ability to pick up a particular item of Kuro's in a New Game Plus playthrough, so you're going to want to keep that in mind.

Once you've defeated the key enemies in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, including the Guardian Ape and the Corrupted Monk, make your way to Ashina Castle and to the rooftop. You'll be greeted by Owl, who gives you the choice to betray Kuro or to stand by him. To get the Shura ending in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, you just have to betray Kuro and refuse to sever his immortality. Betraying the Young Master is definitely considered by and large the negative ending out of those that are available to players, so just be warned if you're going to go down this route.

Sekiro Endings Guide: Immortal Severance Ending

sekiro endings guide

This has its roots in the Shura ending that we just covered above. However, instead of choosing to go with your old mentor, you're going to make the morally righteous choice and go with Kuro if you want to get the Immortal Severance conclusion. You'll also have to give Kuro only the Dragon's Tears out of the other items that you may have accumulated.

Once you make this choice, you're essentially gearing yourself up for a battle against your old mentor. You're also going to be unlocking a whole other headache for yourself if you pick this ending: we're talking extra bosses and an additional area before the consequences of your choice play out and the credits roll on the Immortal Severance ending. In this ending, you'll end up taking on the role of the Sculptor yourself, so that's a little something extra to look forward to.

Sekiro Endings Guide: Purification Ending

The Purification ending and the Return ending are definitely two of the most difficult to get because of how much legwork the player has to do in the lead-up to the crucial Owl vs Kuro decision. On top of that, not a lot of these requirements are explicitly obvious aside from the constant that you're going to have to side with Kuro to get the outcome that you want. In order to get the Purification ending, you're going to have to make sure to complete all the following steps after picking Kuro over Owl:

  • Visit Isshin in his tower and overhear his conversation with Emma
  • Talk to Kuro until his dialogue tree is exhausted
  • Eavesdrop on Kuro
  • Talk to Emma and come to an understanding
  • Visit Emma again at the Old Grave
  • Eavesdrop on Emma and the Sculptor at the Dilapidated Temple
  • Pray to Buddha
  • Defeat the minibosses in the new Hirata Estate
  • Defeat the other bosses that rear their head

Sekiro Endings Guide: Return Ending

The Return ending has even more steps to adhere to if you thought that the Purification ending wasn't enough of a challenge, so just be adequately prepared for that and to realize that there's a lot more fetching of items than any of the other comparatively bog-standard endings.

In order to get the Return ending in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, you're going to have to make sure to complete the Divine Child's questline before you set the events for the end of the game in motion. You'll have to make sure to nab all the following requirements:

  • Gift the Holy Chapter: Infested scroll to the Divine Child
  • Accept rice from the Divine Child until she requests a Persimmon
  • Exchange the Persimmon for Rice for Kuro
  • Give the Rice to Kuro
  • Meet the Divine Child at the Hall of Illusion
  • Bring the Divine Child the scroll of the master of the temple
  • Acquire and gift to the Divin Child the two fruits from the Great Serpent
  • Accept the Frozen Tears
  • Give Kuro both the Frozen and Dragon Tears when prompted

Now that we've shown you how to get all of the Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice endings, it's time for you to go forth and achieve them all. If you want to Platinum the title then you're going to have actually be able to run through each disparate ending, so it's going to be a tale of multiple saves. Go forth and good luck!
