Seinfeld isn’t the type of show you go to if you want a mix of romance and comedy, as the series excelled in having the worst type of people up to their ridiculous hijinks. And yet, the characters still managed to have dozens of relationships.

All of these ended in disaster, while some of the characters were compatible enough to be a couple but never got to making it official. In this list, we’re considering any kind of romantic interest or compatibility as a “couple,” and with that in mind here are the five couples who were perfect for each other, and five who made no sense.

Perfect: Elaine & Puddy

Elaine and Puddy sitting together on Seinfeld

The most “anti-Elaine” boyfriend that was on the show has to be David Puddy, who never had any time for Elaine’s antics and was his own thing. Elaine herself didn’t understand why she ever fell for him, but she still went back to him every time.

This made them a great couple to follow as Puddy wasn’t someone who would fall in line with Elaine’s nonsense and brought in a chase for her because of his aloof and macho mannerisms. It was a challenging relationship for her, one where she rightfully was taken down a peg numerous times.

No Sense: Elaine & Owen

All of the men we saw with Elaine were either of her age or perhaps younger, and it went with her characterization to be superficial enough to choose men like this. For some reason, though, Elaine found it exciting to be with a significantly older fellow at one point.

This man was so much older than Elaine that she eventually ended up taking care of him the way a daughter would with her elderly father. The whole thing was rather uncomfortable to watch, with Elaine herself getting fed up with Owen.

Perfect: Kramer & Marion

Kramer had a bunch of girlfriends who didn’t last long and would have a single-episode tenure on the show, with one of these being Marion. It was too bad she didn’t stick around, however, as Marion seemed the type who got Kramer the best.

She had a strange kind of attraction to him, while he too treated her in a respectful way unlike most of the women he was around to whom he was extremely blunt. Had she stuck around, perhaps Kramer finally would’ve become a normal person.

No Sense: Jerry & Rachel

Jerry was always a very funny guy who got all these beautiful women to date him because of his comedic personality and quick wit. While it was rather hard to believe that he was so good with women, Jerry still pulled it off as the women in question enjoyed his company.

However, Rachel was one such girl who was extremely uneven in that she seemed to like Jerry at one point, only to become very boring around him as if looking for an excuse to break up with him. A girl with a lack of personality had no place being in Jerry’s world.

Perfect: Kramer & Olive

We mentioned how Marion might have turned Kramer into a normal guy, but maybe that’s not what Kramer was ever meant to be; in this case, the right woman for him was someone just as weird as Olive.

She seemed to like him mainly because he let him use her extremely long nails to rub his back, but we’d be lying if we said it didn’t look a perfect match when we saw Kramer acting like a satisfied cat whenever Marion scratched him. Kooky love stories can become one of the best ones.

No Sense: George & Jodi

Jodi wasn’t one of the girls George dated on the show, but she did become one of his pursuits when he realized he had started to have feelings for her because she in turn hated him. For this reason, we’ll be considering them as a couple of sorts.

That’s the extent of their relationship, though, as there was no way this would ever work, considering Jodi hated everything about George. Even when he was trying to be a nice guy, Jodi only saw the worst in him, and we’d be surprised to know if George was successful in asking her for a date when he was seen running after her.

Perfect: Jerry & Cheryl

It seemed like no matter what persona Jerry put on, Cheryl would end up being attracted to him. This can only mean they would’ve worked great as a couple since Cheryl would love whatever version of Jerry she got.

As it happened, she at first found the usual Jerry hilarious to be around; when he put on the facade of being dark and troubled, she got even more attracted to him. We would’ve liked to have seen her get together with him, although it’s certain this was a couple that worked.

No Sense: Jerry & Sheila

Oh dear, how awful was it to see these two being so nauseatingly close to one another? It also didn’t make sense why Jerry would be the way he was with Sheila, considering he was such a neat freak who didn’t really like physical contact much.

All that “schmoopy” stuff really wasn’t fun to watch, and it was a pleasant surprise when Jerry ended up choosing the Soup Nazi’s soup over his relationship with Sheila. At least the soup didn’t make us want to throw up like these two did.

Perfect: George & Susan

It’s too bad that Susan got the ending that she did - although it was funny in some places - as she was the one girl who seemed to tolerate George and was even willing to marry him. George also wasn’t as disgraceful of a person as he usually was when he was with her.

It was nice to see Susan be so caring, considering Seinfeld was a show where we never got to see anyone be that way. When they were apart, it was funny to see George try and get her back with his numerous attempts.

No Sense: Jerry & Elaine

Seinfeld had attempted to have Jerry and Elaine be a couple onscreen in the early seasons, but it was clear these two were never compatible, and the show didn’t have them together ever again.

Jerry, a guy who was obsessed with Superman and wasn’t even remotely chivalrous, could never put up with someone like Elaine who liked to dominate her relationships and wanted to feel like the person her significant other continuously sought after. Their status as friends who didn’t seem to like each other much was the perfect way to have this dynamic play out.
